An Intimate Evening With Heather Nova : Heather Nova Intimate Evening Tour 2006 ended

An Intimate Evening With Heather Nova

With the concert in Tongeren, Heather Nova ended her Intimate Evening Tour 2006 through Switzerland, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, and United Kingdom. She gave ten concerts in less than two weeks, and all of them were sold out, so it was a big success.

The shows were the most unique Heather Nova concerts since many years. In contrast to her previous, mostly rocking tours, she played this time a much more intimate set, accompanied only by violinist Fiona Pears from New Zealand and by London based pianist Ian Tilley, also by her guitars and pedals. Fiona was allowed to play four of her own songs each night, Heather read a poem, Heather did solo parts, and she played also together with Fiona and Ian.

The setlist was very widely spread. From her first EP, to the latest album, we could hear songs from the last 16 years. Most notably were songs like New Love, These Walls, Mothertongue, Ear To The Ground, Heal, Water From Wine, Grow Young, Like A Hurricane, and especially Sugar acoustic, where she fulfilled a wish of many Heather Nova fans. But even the other songs have been played like never before, in this unique arrangement with violin and piano. All this was so special and new even for Heather, that she had no problems to admit being quite nervous on stage this time. But Heather did a great job, and nothing bad happened.

At the concerts, you could buy a "the sorrowjoy" CD with her poems mixed with ambient music (unfortunately except in Zurich). Surely, those CD's will be a collector's item, due to the fact that the CD was only pressed for being sold on this tour, and you cannot buy it in stores.

A lot of Heather fans made it to at least one concert, many of them visited even more, up to all ten gigs! We hope you all enjoyed the gigs and we thank our forum members very much for contributing so many impressions of that tour.

Many thanks to Heather, Fiona, Ian, and all people who helped her doing this tour, making everything so well.

Heather ended the tour with Sugar, like she ended last years' Redbird Tour 2005. But, in Antwerp in last October, she played it with full band. Now, in Tongeren, she played it acoustic style.

We hope you liked our regular updates during the tour. Maybe we will see you at the upcoming Heather gigs in summer, too?

The only gig in the United Kingdom of Heather Nova's current tour happened in the Cabot Hall of London. Heather has never played there before. Different to all other concerts of the tour, this concert was entitled "After Hours With Heather Nova". The concert was sold out.

The venue was partly seated with big tables in the front of the stage, which made it very comfortable for the people there. Behind the tables the people had to stand. The setlist was the same as on the two previous gigs in the Netherlands. Another perfect concert of Heather Nova.

An Intimate Evening With Heather Nova

For the second and last gig of the Intimate Evening Tour 2006 in the Netherlands, Heather Nova hit the Pepsi Stage in Amsterdam. It was again a sold out concert.

The setlist was exactly the same as at the gig before in Groningen. Although the sound was very good, Heather's guitar could have been more transparent and louder. Anyway a nearly perfect concert.

The third concert of Heather Nova's Intimate Evening Tour 2006 took place in Vooruit in Ghent (Belgium). The concert was sold out.

Pretty much the same songs as yesterday obviously, but Heather was in an even better mood, her voice was better and the sound was better than it already was yesterday. Instead of Water From Wine, she played Grow Young "for a friend who's got his birthday today" and New Love instead of These Walls. The poem was the same as in Zurich.

An Intimate Evening With Heather Nova

Heather Nova started her Intimate Evening Tour 2006. The first concert was on Monday, March 13th in Zurich (Switzerland).

The concert consisted of two sets, each about 45-55 minutes long, with a 25 minutes break between. Including the encores, the gig lasted 2 hours and 15 minutes. Both sets started with two performances of Fiona Pears (violin) accompanied by Ian Tilley (piano). All other songs were performances by Heather Nova (vocals, guitar, acoustic guitar, pedals), mostly accompanied by Fiona Pears (violin) and Ian Tilley (piano). There was also a Heather Nova solo acoustic part between.

Heather Nova surprised with a lot of songs supposed to be never played before live. Remarkable was also that she played a song from her first These Walls EP, and two Glow Stars songs. In the second set Heather used a live sampling device for several songs and the poem as well. It was a great and interesting concert which lets Heather's voice appear even more clear and brilliant. Fiona did an excellent job with her little solo parts and her violin additions to Heather's songs and Ian's piano tunes were great as well.

Here is the complete setlist:

Set One:

01. Memories Of Martin And Mary (without Heather)
02. Magic Sands (without Heather)
03. Gloomy Sunday
04. You Left Me A Song
05. I Miss My Sky
06. This Body
