"It's always Christmas, when i feel this way", this way to thank you all, all the fans coming to heathernova.net!
In 2009 we had even more Websites visits than ever before. From January 2005 to end of 2008 we counted 1.900.000 visits. Now we reached 5.360.960 visits today, which means about 3.460.000 visits just in year 2009! One reason for this increase of course are the two European Heather Nova tours in August and in fall this year. Not to forget the shows in Bermuda and New York early this year.
Another and very important reason is, that Heather Nova and her husband Felix took over the management tasks. This enables faster news and more direct contact to the fans. Following this strategy, heathernova.net, the biggest international Heather Nova fan forum became the official Heather Nova forums in September 2009! Thanks to Heather and Felix!
And again thanks to everybody for visiting and joining us!
Love and Merry Christmas! Gerd

Only a few days left in 2008. Time to reflect this year. We've got a perfect new Heather Nova Album, "The Jasmine Flower", a three weeks European tour through eight countries, a new video (Always Christmas) and well two live concerts at the internet (Berlin and Amsterdam). I think there are not that many wishes left unaccomplished. So a very big thank you to Heather for doing this to the fans!
As usual I am looking back as well to how our website here developed. After a huge amount of work, we got the website moved to a new server, completely updated in terms of the software (Xoops, MySQL,PHP) and we finally got it secure in terms of attacks. We are still working on some content, like the picture section, which is not completely yet online. Anyway we are making big progress as the website is more popular than ever. We had 1.900.000 visits this year, which is even 50% more than in all the last three years together! That is quite a big step. And more than 100 new members joined our forums in 2008! Thank you and welcome! Again, HNN is a joined effort, so thank you to all admins and members contributing!
Love and Merry Christmas! Gerd |

Our fan-based website heathernova.net, created to support the extraordinary Bermudian artist Heather Nova is now hosted on a new server!
Along with this transfer to a new server, the website has been upgraded to the most recent software in terms of MySQL, PHP, Xoops and additional modules. Most of the Website content, especially the forums are preserved. The layout is not the same anymore, but that can be changed later.
Most important, HNN is back!
So please find out the new features, try to get most comfortable with the new environment.
Not everything is perfect yet, but anyway beeing on a new server with up-to-date software is very much good news for the future, gives us the possibily for further improvement and development!
Thank you all for being patient the recent weeks with all up and downs of the old server!
Enjoy the new one!

Website News : Happy Birthday HNN and Happy New Year 2008

 Happy New Years 2008!
(for Heather Nova's own New Years Message, scroll down or click here.)
New Years Day marks the third anniversary of this website in its current form and this is the third time we'll be looking back. This year, however, has been very different from the first two. There was no new album released and no new tour. But we have found a few new songs and even a new poem. There have been some hints about things to come. So as we look back, we'll also be looking forward to what's ahead.
January The "questions to" threads that took HNN by storm in 2006 continued on in 2007, starting with Ben and Arne, followed soon after by the guy who brought the "questions to" idea to HNN, Chessimprov. Next, Sabine, Jelger, Chris91275, Perry, and Jadamur have all gotten their own threads, not to mention all of the questions piling up in existing threads, including a few "Crazy Question" contests. The threads were so active that a new sub-forum had to be created to hold them. So far, over 7000 posts have been made in the “questions to” threads alone!
February Our special new Tabs section went live on Heather Nova Net, adding guitar transcriptions by Estellem for virtually every Heather Nova song! This added a whole new dimension to our discography and lyrics.
March We learned about the release of the Heather Nova's latest Wonderfully Whiffy candle, featuring the “scent of fresh coconut combined with vanilla orchid.” Portions of each sale went to a charity of Heather Nova's choice.
Also in March, Andre Tanneberger (ATB) released a vinyl single of the song Renegade, which he wrote and performed with Heather Nova.
April A CD single for Renegade was released which included three mixes of the song as well as a video they shot in Buenos Aires. ATB’s latest CD, Trilogy, was also released, and it featured two more songs written and performed with Heather Nova: Stars Come Out and Made of Glass.
We also had a new poem, of sorts, come out this month. Spunki noticed a poem included in Verona as performed in Berlin in 2001 that began with the line "while the city slept", a poem not found in "the sorrowjoy" collection of poems. When Bernd let us know about this new find, we transcribed the poem and even included it in the first round of the sorrowjoy tournament.
May We learned that Greenrock, an environmental awareness organization in Bermuda, was planning a festival called “Heather Nova and Friends - Festival of Music” in June. Scheduled guests included Fiona Pears and ATB, among others.
Here on the boards, we finally finished the first round of the sorrowjoy tournament that we had started in November 2006, pitting 46 poems against each other to select 23 for the second round. Although turnout in this tournament was generally low, the passion was strong and so we kept the tournament going in our quest to explore Heather Nova's poems in our own way.
Additionally, with prices on eBay rising, Gerd acquired a big lot of "Mermaid" booklets and made them available for sale at cost in the latest “Fan Service”. The booklet was produced by a Heather Nova fan using photos captured by fans and excerpts from reviews and Heather Nova song lyrics.
June Heather’s first and biggest concert of the year at the "Heather Nova and Friends - Festival of Music" went off as a great success. Since ATB was ill and could not come, US DJ Andy Schnerg took his place. But in addition to Fiona Pears, pianist Ian Tilley also performed at the concert. They both accompanied Heather Nova on a full set of her songs, just as they had done in 2006 on the Intimate Evening concert series.
Two Heather Nova Net forums members made the trip to Bermuda to see the concert and explore Heather’s own backyard, Gerd from Germany and Paris from the United States. They both reported having a wonderful time at this very family-oriented event. Gerd managed to conduct an interview with Heather Nova at the concert which he worked hard at transcribing once he got back home from his trip.
July In addition to wishing Heather Nova well on her 40th birthday, Heather Nova Net also presented the full interview that Gerd had done at the concert in June. She not only discussed Bermuda and the songwriting process, but also gave some indications about what’s to come. She said she had written “40 bits of songs” for a new album and had been doing a lot of painting as well as some poems. She hinted that some poems and paintings would be on her official site soon and that a live album would be coming soon, but nothing yet has appeared. She also expressed a desire to do a tour of the east coast of the United States, so we’ll be watching eagerly to see if that comes to pass.
August Although we only found out in October, Heather Nova was a last-minute addition as a performer to the "Picnic in the Park" free family event in Bermuda held to support sustainable development and the preservation of open spaces.
The second round of the sorrowjoy tournament also came to a close with twelve poems still alive.
September In addition to learning about the band Margaret's Daughter covering Heather Nova's "Like Lovers Do", we also reached a new milestone here at Heather Nova Net of 100,000 total posts since this website's inception in 2005. The previous forums, NovaForums, had over 200,000 postings in total, so we still have a little ways to go before we catch up!
October We finished up the third round of the sorrowjoy tournament, heading into the final exciting rounds. Only six poems remained: "cracking the code", "the poison", "soon alaska", "though i am not known here", "the girl", and "six years behind".
November A new Heather Nova song, “Higher Ground”, was released on the website of Swiss magazine 7Sky as part of their November issue. The song accompanied and was inspired by a poem written by a surfer who has gotten involved with disaster relief following the 2004 Asian tsumami and the 2005 hurricane Katrina.
A year after beginning the sorrowjoy tournament, we completed the quarterfinals and semifinals and began the finals, in which "the girl" would score a narrow victory over "soon alaska". Thanks to everyone who participated. It was a fun game.
December We got a second group covering a Heather Nova song, this time the girls of All Angels put their take on "Singing You Through".
And for the third year in a row, we presented a Heather Nova Advent Calendar of recordings, photos, videos, and contests put together by Gerd. For this year, all days were available for the entire rest of the month of December after they appeared each day.
-
I'm sorry for being a few days late on this New Years message. Luckily, Heather Nova has filled the void with her own greeting that hints at a possible new album in 2008. I look forward to seeing what this new year has to offer and hope to enjoy it with all of you here at Heather Nova Net. I would like to give thanks to Gerd, who continues to do a wonderful job running this site, and to Heather Nova, who continues to inspire us. I would also like to thank all of the fans here at Heather Nova Net who make these forums a community of friends.
So let's join together in wishing Heather Nova Net a Happy Third Birthday and each other a Happy New Year.
Cheers, Cassander |

2007 was a year without a Heather Nova tour and an album. But it wasn't a really quiet year for the fans i think! There were songs released in collaboration with Heather Nova and a new song of Heather Nova finally in November. There was a festival with her musical friends. Heather is working on songs for the new album having already lots of ideas and is creative with paintings as well. She considers touring the US east coast, releasing a live album from the Intimitate Evening Tour as well as a new studio album. So 2008 and 2009 is going to be very promising!
At this time of the year I also like to look back how our nice HNN community developed this year. A lot of new members joined again this year, having more than 440 members now, which is a good sign that you all love to be here and like our fan community. Thank you all for your participation in the forums, the riddles, the polls and whatever we had here. We hit already the 100000 postings mark after less then 3 years from the restart as HNN and more then 1.400.000 reads. Thanks so much to all admins for helping, running the tournaments, helping with the Advent Calendar, caring about the forums, contributing to the different sections, correcting typos and whatever. It's a great teamwork!
This year has been very special to me and I cannot really express in words how much happy and thankful I am that Heather Nova and Felix gave me such a warm welcome to Bermuda and that Heather agreed to have an interview we could post on HNN! Thank you so much! Thanks as well to Fiona and Ian for the welcome and to Erin Moran and her crew from Greenrock, who is doing a great job to improve environmental awareness at Bermuda!
Thank you all for joining us at HNN, Merry Christmas to all of you and let's look forward to an upcoming great Heather Nova year 2008!
Love you all! Gerd

Today marks the second anniversary of Heather Nova Net. Let's take a look back at the last year...
January On January 1st, 2006, Heather Nova Net turned one year old. Having been born out of the ashes of NovaForums a year earlier, it was now time for the second year of craziness following our Bermudian namesake and inspiration. And Bermuda is exactly where we started.
The Together As One CD had been released in December 2005, but only to stores in Bermuda, most of which did not ship internationally. But by working with the Bermuda Sloop Foundation and HeatherNova.de, we were able to offer a special international release of this CD and distribute it to fans worldwide.
February The Bermuda Sloop Foundation announced that Heather Nova would be performing at the July launch of the Spirit of Bermuda in Rockport, Maine. Unfortunately, this first American performance in years never happened since the date of launch got pushed back and Heather Nova would no longer be able to attend.
March The Intimate Evening Tour hit the road with 10 dates in 5 countries, including Switzerland, Luxembourg, Belgium, Netherlands, and the UK. Featuring Fiona Pears on violin and Ian Tilley on piano, the concerts were notable for brand new acoustic versions of classic and rare Heather Nova songs, including some that had never been performed live or had not been performed live in many years. As a special bonus, in two concerts, Luxembourg and Tongeren, Heather Nova played a long-desired, first-time-ever acoustic version of Sugar. One sorrowjoy poem was also performed at each gig to go along with the sorrowjoy CD that was being sold. All gigs were sold out.
Heather Nova also made a special video for the Bring the Elephant HOME charity, benefiting the rescue of elephants in Thailand.
April In April, Heather Nova Net once again made a new CD available worldwide, this time the sorrowjoy CD that had only been available at the Intimate Evening concerts, featuring 44 poems read by Heather Nova and set to music mixed by her husband, Felix Tod. In addition, a video for Done Drifting was released on Heather Nova's official site, HeatherNova.com. The Pic Tournament also began in May, with forums members choosing their favorite Heather Nova artwork, album covers, and concert pictures to compete.
May The final match of the Pic Tournament began at the end of May, featuring two concert photos, with one taken by Gerd in Tongeren and nominated by Fritz beating out a another taken and nominated by Jelger at Crossing Border to gain the title of favorite picture.
June Heather Nova started June off with an unannounced gig in Munich, which was a private promotion for Munich Airlines' new direct service to Bermuda. Also during June, forums members competed in two different World Cup pools, with Gerd coming out on top in one and Jadamur in the other.
July We wished Heather Nova a happy 39th birthday and the Summer Tour began with three gigs at the Belgian “Suikerrock”, Swiss “Funny Farm”, and Austrian “Poolbar”. The concerts were “rockier” than the March tour and featured Nikolaj Bjerre on drums, Matt Round on bass, Berit Fridahl on guitars, and Simon Stafford on keyboards. No Blue Balls this year, though.
August The Summer Tour continued in The Netherlands and Belgium, with concerts in The Hague, Eindhoven, and Lokeren. Antionette van de Water, the founder of the Bring the Elephant HOME, sold merchandise to support her charity at the Dutch gigs. Some concert pictures taken by Gerd and signed by Heather Nova were also sold in support of the charity. Additionally, the largest fan gatherings of Heather Nova Net members were at the Dutch gigs, with fans attending from The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, and the United States.
Additionally, we heard rumors in August of Heather Nova writing songs for a new album and the possibility of an album of unreleased tracks. And at Heather Nova Net, Chessimprov brought us the idea of the “questions” threads, which have taken the forums by storm. In the last few months, members both old and new have been asked hundreds of crazy questions!
September “Dancing”, a collaboration with vocals by Heather Nova, was released by Mensano (Mirko von Schlieffen) on his MySpace site. Also in September, French radio station, Ouï FM released Ouï FM Rock Acoustic CD, which featured an acoustic version of Wicked Game that Heather Nova had recorded at their studios. Finally, at the end of September, the Bermuda Sloop Foundation's Spirit of Bermuda, which had launched from Maine in August, now arrived in Bermuda, with Heather Nova performing at a ceremony welcoming the vessel.
October Heather Nova participated in a “Wet Paint Auction” in Bermuda to support the Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation.
November Heather Nova performed at Save The Gardens “family day”, which was held to protest the planned destruction of the Botanical Gardens in Bermuda. Ultimately, the protest was successful and the Gardens will remain. At Heather Nova Net, the sorrowjoy Tournament began.
December Heather Nova Net held it's second Advent Calendar in December, featuring 24 days of photos, articles, recordings and videos from throughout Heather Nova's career, all capped off with a riddle contest giving away various Heather Nova items. Congratulations to the winners!
I'd like to thank everyone who helped make 2006 a great year for us, including Gerd, Bernd, Darren, Heather's band and crew, Alan Burland from The Bermuda Sloop Foundation, Antionette van de Water from Bring the Elephant HOME, Felix Tod, and, of course, Heather Nova. Most of all, however, I'd like to thank all the fans who have supported us throughout the last year. Thank you.
Please continue making our community a special place and please join me in wishing Heather Nova Net a happy second birthday.
Happy New Year!
Cheers, Cassander |

2006 has been another great Heather Nova year! There was the Intimate Evening Tour With Heather Nova in march and a rocking tour in summer! I'm very happy I could join all the concerts and to present as much information as possible to all who couldn't join the concerts.
We've had approximately 120 new members/friends join HNN in the last 12 months, which is absolutely fantastic! I think this a result of our team effort, the result of all admins who work on the project and of course as well of the members who are actively posting in the forums. Thanks so much to all of you! Another thank you goes to all the officials and last but not least to Heather Nova for supporting our community.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Website News : Happy Birthday and Happy New Year
|
Posted by Cassander on 2006/1/1 0:00:00 (3695 reads) |
Today marks both the New Year 2006 and the first anniversary of Heather Nova Net. Please join me in looking back at our first year, 2005:
January On January 1st, 2005, the Heather Nova Network was born. After a virus wiped out Nova Forums, the founder, Tim, started Heather Nova Net as a replacement. With the new name came an expanded website. Sections for a calendar, discography, biography, lyrics, pictures, news and even chess were added to the forums. Members of the Nova Forums/Heather Nova Net international community volunteered to build the added sections and gather all of the latest Heather Nova news.
February In February, we heard the first real news about Heather Nova's new album and its “bigger sound” from Heather herself as well as her drummer, Laurie Jenkins. On Heather Nova Net, we also started the Miscellaneous song tournament, beginning with the These Walls EP.
March In March, Heather Nova participated in a demonstration against a new dolphin park in Bermuda. The demonstration was successful as the proposed park was indeed later rejected by the Bermudian government. We also talked about silly things on the forums, as usual.
April More information about the new album continued to come in from Laurie Jenkins and Heather Nova's guitarist, Berit Fridahl. We found out about the earliest tour dates for the summer, the first of which was the famous “Blue Balls” festival. It soon turned out that Heather actually would not perform at this festival, but we'll always remember its funny name.
May Heather first performed the Sloop song, “Together As One”, live. More tour dates were announced. We also discovered that Heather's upcoming album would be called “Redbird”. And most importantly, we finally finished the Miscellaneous tournament. These Walls bested Blind in the final round by one vote.
June We learned of the August release date for Redbird, as well as the cover and some promo pictures. An interview with Heather Nova about her new album was published. The Ultimate tournament was started, featuring the favorite songs from each of Heather's albums before Redbird.
July The track list for Redbird finally came out along with some thoughts from Heather Nova about each song. Preliminary lyrics soon followed. Welcome was released on iTunes as an online and promo only single. Longtime German fan Gerd took over Heather Nova Net from its founder, Tim. The Ultimate tournament ended with Truth and Bone defeating My Fidelity by a single vote.
August Heather Nova's sixth album, Redbird, was released to a generally warm reception. She began the first leg of her tour to support the new album and Heather Nova Net provided setlists for most concerts soon after they were done. Thanks to all who contributed.
September Heather Nova began the second leg of her tour, including a special concert in London at the end of the month. Her former cellist, Nadia Lanman, returned for a special acoustic set in the middle of the concert. In the late 1990s, Nadia had been forced to retire from cello playing due to medical troubles, but for this concert she managed to summon the strength to give her fans a real treat one last time.
October Heather Nova finished the second leg of her tour. Nadia Lanman answered fan questions in an interview conducted jointly by Heather Nova Net and heathernova.de. Heather Nova Net held a contest giving away Welcome promo singles and posters from the Redbird tour. Community member LightYears was the big winner, getting a signed Welcome CD and two posters.
November Heather Nova Net unveiled a new Concert Setlists section of the website listing setlists from the Redbird tour in addition to the already added Tour Dates section. Heather Nova Net held a Redbird tournament which was easily won by I Miss My Sky. Undefeated chess champions Bernd and Chessimprov finally played against each other. Bernd won the first match as white and managed a draw in the second as black making him the champion of Heather Nova Net for now.
December Heather Nova released Together As One, the single benefiting the Bermuda Sloop Foundation, in Bermuda at the start of the month. Lyrics were soon published and copies should be available from Heather Nova Net in January 2006. We also had the Heather Nova Net Advent Calendar, featuring rare pictures and recordings from throughout Heather Nova's career.
Thanks to everyone who made Heather Nova Net such a wonderful place to be in its first year, including Tim, Gerd, Bernd, Ben, Anke, Chris, Darren, Heather Nova, Felix Tod, Heather's band and crew, the people at Sony, the people at Target Concerts, and most importantly, all of the fans. First and foremost, the Heather Nova Network is a community of friends.
Thank you all for sharing 2005 with us. Please help us continue to improve Heather Nova Net in 2006. Post your thoughts. Let us know any news you find. Tell us how you feel. Or just listen. Together we can learn to live as one.
Please join me in wishing Heather Nova Net a happy first birthday.
Happy New Year
Cheers, Cassander |

Website News : Interview with Heather Nova's cellist Nadia Lanman
|
Posted by Bernd on 2005/10/23 17:41:27 (3173 reads) |
The members from heathernova.de and heathernova.net had the chance to ask Heather Nova's long time cellist Nadia Lanman a few days ago some questions.
We are glad that Nadia Lanman answered the questions. In this world-wide first interview with Nadia Lanman ever, she talks about music in general, her work with Heather, about the last five years and the concert with Heather Nova this year in London, where she rejoined the Heather Nova band again for a few songs, and other questions like about her future. For example, she left England to move to another continent. Do you want to know where she went, why she learnt the cello or what she thinks about her fans?
Go to the German Heather Nova fanpage, click on the Heather pic, then on "stories", and click on the article from October 23, 2005.
The interview is in English language and was a cooperation between heathernova.de and heathernova.net.

Website News : The Heather Nova Network

The Heather Nova Network is now in my hands as I have taken over the URL and the website content on there. I'm very proud to have now even more possibilities to support my favourite artist Heather Nova.
You probably have noticed already a few changes here, like the Tour Dates section which was added a few weeks ago. There will be more Heather Nova related things added in the future. To make it clear, this is a Heather Nova website and I will do my best to make it as cosy as possible for the fans. Well actually no big change so
Enjoy the website and especially the fans in the forums. Any concerns, please don't hesitate to address to me. This is the place for the Heather Nova fans! You can discuss everything here as long as you are respectful towards others. Have fun! Gerd (look at the Website Credits for details) |

Each song has been carefully transcribed by Cassander with help and advice provided by the HeatherNova.Net community. Each section of a song's lyrics (Verse, Chorus, Break, etc.) has been labeled so as to make it easier to refer to the different sections of each song.
