To be honest, I can name the records I've bought since spring of 2000.
2003 Wilmer X - Lyckliga hundar Heather Nova - Storm last Wednesday Wilmer X - 13 vĺningar upp Heather Nova - Glow stars, Oyster, Nova-Storms - crossing Cologne soon to be bought remaining Heather Nova albums and next Heather Nova as soon as it's released I blame the internet... No excuses can justify anything, just my concious starting to make itself heard after a LOT of downloading... ![]()

Hey Johan, did you know downloading is not that bad if you buy the records you like after discovering them that way? The ones that suck, well, you saved money, but if an artist's work pleases you, then maybe you can consider owning its record, since it's also nicer to have than an ugly CD-R...

I do believe in supporting artists/musicians I like. If there was a way to pay them all directly, like through their own websites, or even directly to them, by some means, I would choose that. Having to go through record companies and distribution channels sucks sometimes, as everyone takes their own little slice of the pie...

Downloading and burning CD's is something new to the world. Five-six years is nothing if one look at how long media has been around. (forever)
Digital media have changed how we view right and wrong, perhaps only temporary until the law put its feet down, but changed it has. Now I'm not denying downloading for me and my family, trying to make nice covers and writing "nice" on the CD-R's. It's just never felt OK. Why? Sure, the music is exactly the same, I can't hear the difference. It's just the homemade CD's...! The moral part have only recently taking over, after a few concerts and losing my own job. It's their job I'm denying them pay for - the music. So, when it becomes illegal here in Sweden too, it's not now, and the risk of large fines rise, I'll probably stop. It will also mean one more thing: I'm NOT going to buy a lot of CD's. I didn't before. I'll just stick to the few proven artists I know. Anyway, this discussion have probably been up on the old forum, so i hope i'm not repeating too much.... and yes, if Heather had a PayPal account i'd transfer 50 euros at once, I owe her that... and, i would still buy the CD's....

The CD revolution itself, followed by CD-r's, followed by the ability to download and share music, has made more music theoretically available to those who want to seek out and search then at any other time in history.
Work friends routinely copy and share music between them, and pass it on. My own work colleague who I drive to work and back lets me have dozens of CD-r's with dozens of albums on each which have been compressed into MP3 format. I find I cannot listen to everything... For me, it sometimes kills the pleasure of being able to browse at leisure through music. Quality has sometimes been replaced by quantity.

I just don't see mp3-files as attractive as CDs. The CDs and the booklets are like an artwork for me. A file is just a file. I want to see a cover, see the artist who performs, reading the lyrics, etc. It's far easier and perhaps also cheaper to download things yes, but I still prefer the good old CDs. ( Sometimes I do even miss my good old vinyl

CD's and CD-r's and MP3's and technology itself is all a convenience...
Fair enough, to play old vinyl, you still have to rely on technology with a turntable, but at least you have something a little more tangible in your hands, which is the vinyl and then (depending on what kind of music you're listening to) an inner bag with lyrics or notes on... Some musicians/artistes used to actually produce their own vinyl; some still do, as well as taking care over creating a booklet.

Towards the end of our shift, we were watching some music videos... Rachel someone, a few more, then Gwen Stefini... it's interesting my colleagues based their likes on the music on the looks of the artists, not on the actual music.

I always liked Gwen Stefani, and her music, even with her band, although I think she's not pretty, so it's definitely not her looks for me. I also like her newest video and song 'What you waiting for'. I think it's damn funny. The song and the video. As all of her song I know of. It makes good mood for me. You will not hear a single bad word from me about her (although her most successful song 'Don't speak' was a bit lame). ![]()
