Bermuda Festival
Friday, February 22, 2019
Saturday, February 23, 2019
7:30pm
Earl Cameron Theatre, City Hall, Bermuda

Internationally acclaimed Bermudian singer/songwriter is to feature an all-women Bermudian band and encourage songwriting, giving an opportunity to selected young Bermudian girls to hone and perform a self-penned song on stage with her. The body of her set will consist of Heather performing a selection of her own songs, as well as covers from prominent women songwriters such as Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Carole King, Nina Simone, Madonna and Annie Lennox. Heather will also perform with one of the winners of our 2nd Annual On Stage Competition!

Curious, which songs from Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Carole King, Nina Simone, Madonna and Annie Lennox she will cover.

Joni Mitchell: Blue?
Carole King: Natural Woman?

She used "Blue" at the end of Winterblue on Wonderlust, for example. On the "TV Noir" show (2011) he sang a few lines from "Natural Woman" on request of the audience and from memory (without the possibility to prepare or practise it before).

would love to hear the performance.
Way to expensive so for me to go just for the concert.

Great list of female singer/songwriters. A pity Tori Amos is not amongst them. Would love to hear a cover of one of her songs by Heather. (Especially "Merman", but that'd be too unknown anyway.)

Well "such as" probably means there are even more than those six names. It would be great if she covered Kate Bush one day. I do also miss some 90's or 2000's name. Would LOVE to hear some PJ Harvey song from Heather, for example.

I like the logo of the Bermuda festival very much. It's both a clef (meaning: arts) and a sail from a sail boat in the water (meaning: Bermuda as an island close to the water).

Tickets went on sale this morning.
Got my tickets for both shows! Front and center. If thinking of going, hurry and place order. Looks like the Saturday show is the more popular show.

Great!

I'm sure we all are curious which songs she sings... it would be nice if you could write a report afterwards.

On the ticket site, also Kate Bush is now mentioned!!!!

"covers by prominent women songwriters such as Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Kate Bush, Nina Simone, and Madonna"

And Heather is quoted: "Many young people today aspire to be singers, and that's wonderful. But songwriting seems to have taken a back seat. It's great to be a good singer, but even better to also be able to write your own songs. A song can tell your story, a song can tell your truth, a song can set you free. I want to encourage young Bermudian women to find their voices through songwriting".

Cool!
Unfortunately I know too few Kate Bush songs (I only have one kind of best of cd), but I’ve always loved Wuthering heights and Running up that hill.
And I’ve only got the Blue cd and Song to seagull as vinyl of Joni Mitchell at home. River is one of my absolute favourites of her (but it is more of a X-mas song, so unlikely Heather will play it in February) and Little green is quite touching. From Song to a seagull I especially like I had a king and Night in the city. But like Kate Bush’s work, I know too little of Joni’s as well.
Nonetheless I’m curious, which songs Heather will choose.

Bermudian Hana Bushara (19) is the winner of the "Heather Nova Songwriting Competition" and she will be coached by Heather and will perform with her during both concerts.

I wonder if the setlist will change or if it will be the same on both days. But I guess latter.
Perhaps you can take a pic of it (or write it down), Mark!? Thanks!

Thank you, Mark!!

Oh, Fast car – one of my favourites by Tracy.
I remember, Heather said in an interview once that that song was very important for her back 30 years ago, when she was heading for London.

And funnily, the first time I heard The circle game was not the original, but a cover by Tori Amos.

Looking forward to the complete setlist but as well to impressions you can share about the concert. Woow, Royals, love that song, Fast car, great, Running up that Hill! I really would love if Heather suprises at concerts at least with one different cover at each concert or better a different setlist. Anyway, this concerts I think was very special.
