No thread for Mary Lambert?

She just put a new Kickstarter up for a spring EP and it indicates there will be a fall tour and a new full-length album next year.

I got into Mary's music just after she visited DC last (after hearing about her from a friend who went to her show) and I've been waiting for her to return for over a year now. Really need to go.

The new EP is out and good.

She also did a concert that was recorded for tv earlier this year and it is fantastic! Makes me want to attend a concert even more. Pretty much at her best in this.

New album, Grief Creature, comes out November 15. http://marylambertsings.com/

Mary went independent and made the music herself with the help of kickstarter - she also did all or most of the production and mixing and such. She had been frustrated by record labels not letting her control her own music and pushing her to make music she didn't want to make - sound familiar?

I've heard it early due to being a kickstarter and I can say the first and last several songs are my favorites. It's actually a mixture of poetry and music.

There are some love songs and songs about depression and such on here, but the lyrics and poetry can get extraordinary intense - rape, child abuse, trauma, and the lingering effects of these are all delved into on several songs/poems. Not easy listening but some of the bravest and most painful music I've ever listened to.

Most intense tracks are Shame, Me Museum, Sister, Knife, Trauma is a Stalker, If You Ever Leave Somebody, Another Rape Poem.

Born Sad is a really fun song about depression (really!) that she's played live at shows for years now. It's the first single!
