Cassander asked me in another thread about my first CD which is called 'The blooming flower'. Sorry Cass, I've seen this yesterday first.

Here is now for you and of course for the other members the link to my website...Its in German but my songs are in English :)

Verena Reif

Music is always around me and in my heart. It fills my soul with so much joy and in the year 2009 I began to write my own songs. Wow, this is something I've never expected! More and more songs came out and the songwriting is a miracle to me. There is more, I'm sure. When I write my songs, its like there is something bigger - maybe something we all don't know or things that come nearer or some you are able letting go.

Ok, hope you enjoy my music! Give me feedback, that would be nice.

Cheerio!

Verena

Aren't there sound extracts or Youtube clips ? I guess so, because someone commented on a song, but I don't hear/see anything.

If you click on one of the song titles on this page:

http://www.verenareif.de/cd-the-blooming-flower/

Such as the first song, you then go to another page like this one:

http://www.verenareif.de/cd-the-bloom ... /01-01_not-far-from-here/

And you have to click on the song title again, and then it plays the song.

Unless you have something like NoScript installed on your browser in which case you would need to allow scripts.

Yes, the second song ("You showed me how to cry") is really good, Verena. Catchy tune.

Both songs are very good and remind me of the great Penelope Houston.

Thanks Idefix, Sabsi and Bernd for your nice comments!

@Bernd: I've never heard of her before...have to look at Youtube. I like to discover new artists - which album can you recommend from Penelope Houston?

Well, she is not really a "new artist", as since she is in music business since 35 years already... She was born in 1958 and is still a member of the punk band she founded in 1977! And she once opened for the Sex Pistols!

But since the end-1980's, she does also lots of solo stuff, and this solo stuff is completely different to her punk band, it's acoustic-flavored folk-rock, sometimes it's even blues. I can highly recommend to you all her solo albums, but of course, each album has its own style - an album from 2012 is something else than an album from 1988. So in case you don't like one album, maybe you like her next one even more. She sometimes uses even autoharp, mandolin and tamborines.

And the best thing:

You can legally listen to most of her solo albums for free! Here are the links:

http://digital.penelope.net/album/on-market-street (2012)
http://digital.penelope.net/album/the-pale-green-girl (2004)
http://digital.penelope.net/album/loners-stoners-and-prison-brides (2000)
http://digital.penelope.net/album/crazy-baby (1994)
http://digital.penelope.net/album/karmal-apple (1994)
http://digital.penelope.net/album/silk-purse-from-a-sows-ear (1993)
http://digital.penelope.net/album/the-whole-world (1993)
http://digital.penelope.net/album/birdboys (1988)

Although she is from California, and she is still living there, her biggest market is Germany. I'm not sure why, but she got quite some audience here in the mid-1990's, with being a few times on television, and touring, so she could build up her fan-base especially in Germany.

I saw her already two times (Nuremberg 1998, Ingolstadt 2004), and I'm more than happy that with her recent album, she will be in April/May 2012 in Germany again for some concerts. Her current tourdates for Germany.

Nice song, Verena. It reminds me of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The wind swept vastness of the sea and sand. And a little place to call home.

@Sabsi: Thanks! Nice that you've enjoyed the song.

No it's not a religious song. It is more a song about longing - longing for the sea and for nature, freedom, peace. To live simple in an old fisherman's house -- the nature always around me and the sea, of course. Oh that would be a good feeling, I think. And my lover the half time at sea ...
Yeah, that's it.

...I've written this song mostly in longing for the sea, you know. Always when I arrive at the beach, for example at the Baltic Sea my feelings overwhelm and it always feels to me like coming home. A friend of mine said once to me, maybe my soul lived at the sea in another earlier life. Goosebumps!

There are so much things, we don't know.

@Bernd: Mostly I like the island "Usedom" ...it's a nice place to go on holiday. And the sea always around me - that's a good feeling! Here is a picture of me on the beach.

Sorry I can't.

I've only done 3 gigs (4, couting Den Haag with Heather), so far and never felt nervous about it.

When I played with Heather, I thought I wasn't nervous because I was not playng my own songs. but finally, it's just the way I am.

Think of a setting in which you're confident playing your songs. When you get on stage, focus on your strengths and how confident you've felt performing in that place. It's still your same voice and music.

Granted, I'm no musician, but this has worked for me in social situations. I get nervous in front of large crowds but am often great with smaller groups, so I try to treat the large crowds as if they were small groups, basically. It worked last time, anyway, when leading a discussion about a sensitive topic with a crowd of more than 50 people.

Have you performed since the last time you told me about, back in March or so I think it was?

Woow! Have fun, sugarbaby! Simply believe in yourself and your love to music. Feel like being at home! And even when a few people don't like your music or even don't understand your songs, it's their problem!
So there is nothing that can go wrong!

First of all congrats for this chance, Verena! I' m so pleased for you!! But it' s, of course, absolutely comprehensible that you are a bit nervous. I wish you all the best for tomorrow evening. When will the gig start? I will think of you and send you all my positive vibes. Verena, your voice is wonderful and you are a very charming person! The stage is surely a place where you belong. And I' m sure that you will do your best tomorrow evening. Well, and just read my below listed signature ...

Once you get going and the crowd hears how good you are and gets into the music, your fears will dissipate! You'll not want the night to end.

Good luck!

Thank you all very much for your answers. The gig will start at 7 o' clock in the evening. Thank you all for your good vibes! I'm very happy about it..

I'll only play my own songs - I thought about covering Heathers "Everything Changes" but I'm not sure. It's a song that I really like. A song that helps me through dark and sad times in my life. I love this one. Maybe I'll play it as a special encore.

It's not a big place in which I'll play it's a café and the half of the crowd will be my family and friends *smile* So I think it will be good and I love to play my music - everyday - everytime. And I hope someone in the crowd loves my music too, beside my friends and family ...

So thank you all for your kind words! I'll post a few pictures the next days - maybe a video too ...

All the best wishes and lots of love.

Verena

Oh, I forgot : good luck.

Well, if family and friends are there, it will be easier (more claps and stuff).

To Cass : I played twice in June. Probably more in the monthes to come.

Hello, my gig was very good - everybody was happy to hear me live, I think. After the little concert a lot of people came along and they said that I have a nice voice and they spread out their thanks. It was a good feeling to play in that little café. A lot of people I love were there, that was a good feeling too. I played I think 10 own songs. And the special encore was 'Everything Changes' ...

I will post a few videos this weekend hopefully.

Here are some pictures from yesterday. Hope you like them.

Love,
Verena
