Heather would very much love to play songs of your choice acoustically on her upcoming tour titled “A special acoustic evening” in October/November 2009. And she would want to make the songs special as she stated: "And special is what I am working on. It won’t be a folky thing – more post modern I hope." As far as I know she also liked their album "The Bends" and therefore this could be a personal association for Heather. I would love to hear this song. It would be interesting to hear how she sings this song. But I guess that this is not really realistic, unfortunately.

What I would like to hear her sing is "One Step Up". This is a Springsteen song from the 1988 'Tunnel Of Love' album.
This is a song about a relationship going bad. It's slipping away and there's actually not much you can do about it. Whatever you try, the relationship turns the wrong way. As the lyrics go "one step up and two steps back". "Who's wrong and who's right, another battle in our dirty little war".
Everybody who has a good relation going bad in their lives can relate to that.
Heather always had a knack for making a cover like it was her own song. Yes, yes, i'm aware of "I'm on fire". "One Step up" could be the follow up 15 years laters. Not every story ends well... but that's life...
The question always is "Who's wrong and who's right". The main character in this song doesn't jugde, not himself, nor his partner. He/she only tells the feeling involved. He/she is only looking for a good feeling to hang to, even if its for one moment. That's a strength Heather has in her songs too. She let's us feel her feelings, her desires, her hurt. She brings a similar feeling in "Maybe Tomorrow", you know what I mean?

I always thought that the lyrics and music didn't quite match in the original. For years now, i wondered how somebody like Heather would translate this song...

In the announcement she wrote that she wanted to create a lot of textures and feels. So that's the reason I wanted to do the input of this song.

That's a good suggestion for a cover, where I think she could do a really good interpretation in capturing the spirit of the song. I recall that Raul Malo (The Mavericks) did a nice take of "All That Heaven Will Allow" from the same "Tunnel Of Love" album. His version used his mellifluous Roy Orbison-like voice and imbued the song with a certain sweetness.

One that comes to mind for me that I'd love see see Heather Nova or someone of her musical skills covering is a hauntingly sweet song by Tanya Donelly/Belly called "Sweet Ride." There's an acoustic version on YouTube:

Hm, I wouldn't be so sure about your choice of instruments - since Heather promised a "post modern" concert and encouraged the paper cup competitors to use "unusual" instruments as well - you might give it a try.

True, on Everytime, Heather whistles, and in concert Heather even invited everybody to whistle along during this song. So when "whistling" counts as an instrument, why not foot tapping or humming?
