Just listened to it: I like your songs plus you've got a beautiful, pleasant voice! Made me think a bit of Rose's song la liste.

Oh, thanks for the comment about the voice ! I'm always thinking it's very common and unnoticeable.

If we had a bit more time, I'da had chosen to record a song in English , so that you can understand the lyrics.

Online by now, there is one quite sad song, called Mamie, about the last (several !) years of her "life", when the hrart was still ebating, but there was absolutely nothing more, except fear, pain anx anxiety in her eyes.

The second one, La raison du plus fort, is a funny song, in which I adapt morals of La Fontaine fable lines and proverb to parent-child situations, and explain I (the parent) will win anyway.

The third one, Daenerys & moi, is me mocking TV shows, for producers and scenarists are able to create unbelivable and perfect dragons, but a realistic pregnancy or post-partum seems to complicate for them.

Unlike Heather and Verena, my lyrics are more story-telling than poetry. And more often more humorsictic. It's neither better nor worse, it's just different.

I promise you that when we record again in September, I'll record at least one English song.

Btw, I think that for a non-French speaker, Mamie is more interesting, because the melody of this one is richer and more sophisticated than the melody of the two others.
La raison du plus fort, especially, is probably boring for non-French speaker. I like it a lot, though - but I speak French.

I like all the songs, but you could tell without understanding the lyrics, that Mamie is about something sad. Sorry to hear that about your granny!
And yeah, you can tell as well, that you tell stories with your songs. Impressive how fast you can sing in this one part of Daenerys & moi! I guess, Id fluff.

I like your words in an acoustic way and the songs, but like most of us I have no idea what the songs are about in detail.

It was quite in the end of the session, and I had been playing the song about a dozen times before. There was always something going wrong, especially with this part of the song. Usually, I play it quite slower, and I need to focus on keeping breath in long sentences, and I guess this distracted me from other things like pronunciation, and well, it never went well, so I started playing / singing again, and again (and again).
Besides, recording usually makes me nervous (while playing live, not at all). And I'm the kind of person that's almost nervous. I'm not used to nervousness, so I don't manage it easily. I'm not used to.

Maybe I started being fed up, unconsciously, because I played it faster that usual, but I didn't realized on the moment.
I msut have been eager to have it done. Or I wanted to finish as soon as I could, before messing up, I don't know, but, well, I played the song faster than I usually do.

I'd elaborate more but I don't speak French. I'll echo what's been said about Mamie, though.

Danaerys & Moi sounds hilarious.

It was fin writing it.

In the series, when she steps to the fire, naked, beautiful, gracious, she has perfect body.

Actually, she should have a hanging postpartum belly, straws on it, leaving blood drops where she walks, and probably walk less graciously and/or have a tired face...

Just checked out the last two songs, liked on FB. I wish I knew a bit more French, I guess the lyrics must play quite an important role in your music as the music iteslf is a bit static. But I get it, there's something dylanesque about it, hence my assumption about the importance of lyrics.

Anyway, you have a really sweet voice and I enjoyed listening. Still, it would be insteresting to hear some of this music in slightly more elaborate arrangements, "La raison du plus fort" could definitely benefit from that.

I used to play with a musician some times ago, and indeed, it gave the songs another dimension.

Well, in the future, maybe....

Thanks for the "dylanesque" ; it's a pleasure to be compared to such a guy !

Hi !

Today, a new session, in English this time. The problem is that I need to have a real conversation in English to get back a decent accent, and I hadn't had any real conversation before recording... so the accent is bad, and it annoys me quite a bit. Still the song is not bad, I guess, and I took some Heather words here and there.

You're so nice, with the comment about my accent ! I blamed myself for losing so much on this point, this afternoon, but when I read that it's "lovely", it helps me being ok with it.

One more, in French, just like almost all of my songs : my Facebook page

For the previous song, i forgot to thank Cass, who helps me each time I write a song in English, pointing the mistakes or the weaknesses in the lyrics, which helps me to improve the whole thing.

One more French song, which means absolutely nothing if sou try to translate it.
It's made of sentences just made out names.

Wow, I guess, I would have big problems remembering all the names (at least in the right order), when playing it live! Anyway, I like the rhythm of this song very much!

It's quite hard to remember indeed, for a name with another (or with 3 others) make sense, but the whole thing isn't definitely a story.

Indeed, we started over several times just because I got lost and sung the wrong name (which wouldn't necessarily have been noticeable, but distracted me and led me to wrong notes or a blank in the singing.

Nice song! Not sure what you're on about, though I can tell it's a "list" song :) I like the chord sequence, though I feel you could have maybe come up with another one to contrast it with but I guess you were going for that static feel. Anyway, your voice always sounds really beautiful.

Thanks !

Btw, as 57Arietis said, lyrics are really hard to remember, so not having to thing about the chords is a nice balance for my little brain.
When O write this song, I meant it to be played with some other musician, whose purpose would be to break the musical monotony. I hope I will play with someone again soon.

I'm very proud of the lyrics. but unfortunately, it's totally untranslatable.

Had to see what the final version of the lyrics were so I wrote them up based on the facebook video! It's a warm feeling returning to these words we discussed and worked on so much a couple years ago and finally hearing the melody!

Thought this might help others understand the song as well.

Golden Ghosts
by Estellem

(Verse 1)
Honesty is a dream in which we all wanted to believe,
The lifeblood of the team
No one craves for a lie to tie his soul to another one;
Still, it's all we can find

(Chorus)
And sometimes, I've fallen in love with a man who didn't exist at all,
And I've longed so hard for a spark from a golden ghost
I've fallen in love with a glimpse of what would have suited me,
Then I dug for reality, which saved me

(Verse 2)
We sail somewhere between bright peackock tail and raw shameful self
We don't want to be seen
While we bail out our hearts, scrubbing away the mud and the grime,
Keeping the glowing parts

(Chorus)

(Bridge 1)
When the blue turns to black,
And the king to the jack,
When the wine is water,
We run from the fire

(Verse 3)
Genuine truth is a tale on which we all wanted to rely
Who are you? What am I?

(Chorus)

(Bridge 2/Outro)
When the cock is crowing,
When the moon is fading,
When the toad is croaking,
Then we drop the pumpkin,
Drop the pumpkin,
Drop the pumpkin

Oh i think that's "dug to reality" not "dug for reality".

I remember you once asked me about the difference between "to" and "for" in English, but I forget if it was for this song or another one?

I still always think of my high school Latin teacher's cheer:

"To, for, six, eight, who do we appreciate? Dative! Dative!"

(A variant on the English cheer "Two, Four, Six, Eight, who do we appreciate? NAME! NAME!"
