Estelle Mathieu is a young 23 years old french singer. She doesn't have an album out yet but i think her songs and her musical talent are really worth to be mentioned. Most of her songs are in french language. The songs she recorded so far are still demos and mostly recorded at home. Just consider that a studio recording would sound even better. So have in mind those are home recordings.

So here is Les_Soupirs_De_Vincent

Hope you like it as much as i do.

I will post some more songs of her soon!

Very nice!

But don't make her older than she is!

"Un Jeudi de Décembre
En Sorbonne vers midi
Tout le monde s'ennuie
en cours de Lexicologie
Je n'y fait pas d'effort
mais j'y peut rien
Et j'vous jure
que je'n connais rien de pire
que cette science obscure
Il ne me reste plus pour rythmer
ce cours de langues
que le soupir de Vincent

Et quelques jours plus tard
Tant pis pour le ciel gris
Balade en plein hiver
Dans les rues de Paris
Je me les pele pas mal
avec ce vent glacial qui souffle
Je gele malgres mon manteau
et tous mes pulls et mes mouffles
Mais pour me rechauffer
je peux glaner heureusement
quelques sourires de Vincent

A l'abri de l'hiver
au calme sous les bouchons
Loin de la ville
et de son agitation
J'ai droit tout le trajet
c'est un peu déroutant
Aux utopies absurdes
sur des mots de franc vouloir

J'ignore ce qu'il reste
de cet étrange moment
Dans les soupirs de Vincent"

Translation coming up after lunch

Ps:any more tickets left?

Here is my modest attempt at translating her song.

"As Vincent Sighs"

"Thursday in December
noontime at the Sorbonne
Everyone is bored in Lexicology class
I have not made much efort
but I can't help it
I swear I know of nothing worse
than this arcane subject
Nothing remains
that can breathe life into it
but
Vincent's sighs

A few days later
even though the sky was gray
I walk through the streets of Paris all day
I freeze my buns off
in this icy wind that blows
Despite my coat
all my sweaters and mittens
To keep warm
I can thankfully glean
a few of
Vincent's smiles

Sheltered from the winter,relaxed
and seemingly far from traffic
and the city's bustle
I am puzzled to find
during my commute
that I cannot escape
the absurd utopia
of words'will

I am not sure what remains
of these weird times
As Vincent Sighs

Estellem should scold me for this, but I can't resist another comment. Loading Estelle's song onto iTunes, the next album to play (automatically) is 'schon ist die jugend' by 'estetaler harmonika' which is a collection of old German folksongs sung by this male-voice choir. Enough to have me grabbing the (alcohol free ) beer out the fridge

Das Lieben bringt groß' Freud'

prost!

It is always tricky translating a song, poem or novel.
Some moods and expressions are idiomatic.
I tried my best over lunch to come up with a translation for those non French speakers who wished to understand this sweet song.I tried to be faithful to her text as much as I could

Estelle, what are your musical influences? I guess Heather, of course, but any other names, too?

Well, I wasn't listening so much to Heather at the moment I started writing my songs, so I don't think her music has much inluence on me. i listened to her a lot when I discovered her, more Siren and South stuff (I was young...) and since i saw her in the Bataclan last october (when I finally have become able to appreciate blow, glows stars, oyster and Storm as much as they deserve it). And Siren songs like I'm Alive, which i hardly notice at the age of 18 but which is now my favorite on the album... or Blood of Me.. Between these two periods, I haven't listebed much to her.

All I can say is I've been listening much to young French artists often alors on stage with a piano or so, singing not to express their feelings but to tell a story or to make the audiance laugh.

For this song, maybe the music hadn't benn the same if I hadn't heard of Ryan Adams' cover af the Oasis song Wonderwall... the rythm and the softness are quite the same.

And I am not used to express my feelings while I'm writing, because I can't make art or something i am happy of with them. This might change, though ; I have been listening so much to HEather this last year...

Well, now somebody said loud and clear that I am ma, Gercd can rename the topic as Estellem...

Estelle Mathieu is my real name but it sounds a bit like Mireille Mathieu ; I'm not related to her and I'm not very proud we both have the same name !

Congratulatin for the ticket, ans congratulations to PAris, who idn't make many mistakes when he put the lyrics on thread ; but they are on my website too.

Estelle, you are very kind when you say I did not make many mistakes.I visited your website and after reading the lyrics to this song I noticed It was almost as if I had rewritten parts of it
I wrote it down and translated during my lunch break,so sorry about the "new" lyrics.
Thank you for the music and the lovely melodies

Reminds me of Carla Bruni (which is good).
