i just watched again "The man with two brains " with Steve Martin ! aka doctor "Hufuhuurh" , like it's spelled .
great funny quotes ! Girl: Sounds like a subdural hematoma to me. Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr: Oh, it does, does it? Well, it's not your job to diagnose. Girl: But I thought... Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr: You thought, you thought. Just go. Three years of nursery school and you think you know it all. Well, you're still wet behind the ears. It's not a subdural hematoma. It's *epidural*. Ha. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dolores: The Complete Poems of John Lillison, England's greatest one-armed poet. Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr: He wrote 'In Dillan's Grove' and 'Pointy Birds.' O pointy birds, o pointy pointy, anoint my head, anointy-nointy. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dolores: What are those assholes doing on the porch? Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr: Those aren't assholes. It's pronounced *azaleas*. Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr: Would you read that last bit back to me? I'm afraid it might make me sound pompous to your readers. Journalist: 'My brilliant research in brain transplantation is unsurpassed, and will probably make my name live beyond eternity'. i. ![]()

I watched Passion of the Christ today. The crucifixion scene was good, but the whippings and the carrying the cross dragged on for way too long. This is a very slow movie. Dont get to see much of Jesus either as a person, just as a whipping doll. But it does have some good cinematography and powerful scenes, though the narrative was flawed.
I didnt mind the violence as much as I thought I would. Then again, it looked very fake. Anyone whipped like they show in the film would look a lot worse and probably would have died. Kinda funny too how all these conservatives watched and liked the movie and yet understand nothing. I mean, Jesus says that after he dies, he just wants people to love each other. And yet they walk out of the theater and persecute gays. The film shows how violent and cruel man can be, how terrible killing is, how "sinful" it is, and yet they walk out of the theater supporting the death penalty and wanting to kill "terrorists". What total, complete hypocracy. Oh, and the languages were cool. The Latin was wrong because they pronounced it like Church Latin, which isnt how it would have been spoken at the time, but it was still nice to have a movie in Hewbrew, Aramaic, and Latin. They didnt subtitle a lot though. And the movie way overuses slow motion. Oi.

Although it has a few good scenes, I wouldnt really recommend the movie. Lord of the Rings is much better even for Christian religious purposes.

If you saw the new release of the movie, Cassander, you're seeing an edited version with a lot of the violence removed.

But isn't your point that the movie on the screen and the actions of the christians who watch it don't jive? In which case the movie on the screen doesn't matter.

i havent seen it yet. i want to though.
i dont believe in god, so i really dont know about that aspect of it. but i think Jesus was a very interesting man, so id like to see it. i really liked the temptation of christ, too. but when you go back to watch it, man, is that music WAY off for that film. its like peter gabriel, and it RUINS it. but anyways. last night, i watched Empire Records. it was on tv, and its sort of funny, though totally cheesy. x

I made multiple points. One is like you say here. Another is that it didnt convey the message of the gospels very well, nor much about Christ.

Jesus, according to the gospels, did want people to love each other. He said to love not only your brother but your enemy. He said when someone hits you on one cheek, to turn your other. Yes, the Bible contradicts itself all the time, but if you look at the "red text" (what Jesus is to have said), then you get something that is pretty consistantly radical and pacifistic. Being unafraid doesnt mean you kill someone... it means you are not afraid of them. Actually, attacking someone in defense usually signifies you are afraid. Quote:
And slow motion overused conveys nothing but slowness. All the power is drained out of it cause it is used so often.

That's not true. I like spiders. What I hate is worms.
I just thought it was stupid. I'm ok with it being comic-booky, since it's a comic book, but the dialogue and the story just seemed extra dumb to me. And there didn't seem to be any improvement in the graphics. It still looked very fake. At the end she said, "Go get 'em, Tiger." I mean, c'mon! Tiger? Barf.

I thought the villian in the second one was much better than the villian in the first. And I like the unconventional resolution too where its not just another good guy defeats bad guy. Doc Oc was an interesting character, I thought.
I thought the movie was trying to be a serious, artistic-type movie. It didnt exactly succeed, but the effort made it a better movie. My intelligence didn't feel insulted by watching it, unlike with something like, say, Shrek 2 or Troy.

Good movie, as always. Of course, since my wife was raised with niether baseball nor a father, she had trouble connect to it and understanding it.

If you look at the other films and TV shows that Sam Raimi has written, directed, or produced, the Spider Man series is a joke. I'm thinking he's just doing the series for money.

Of course Tim, Sam Raimi is such an inteligent guy. He knows he's making tons of money with this Spiderman shit and he'll make 5 awesome films after those SM ones. Just like Evil Dead or A Simple Plan.
