For old times; sake, I downloaded their 'discography' compilation album just recently. It's still great stuff, for sure.
One of my celebrity moments came in a tiny old London pub sometime in the mid nineties... I was standing at the bar drinking some very strong, dark ale, when I realised the guy standing next to me, enthusing over the (admittedly quality, hardwood) floorboards was Neil Tennant. Chris was sitting in the corner (Chris trained as an architect). So I plucked up some courage and drew his attention to the rather marvellous resin bar counter, explaining that it must have been very difficult to pour without trapping air bubbles at the point the resin met the chunks of gravel within. 'Oh yes, yes...' he said, stroking his finger across its surface. Chris said nothing.
I turned back to my drink and silently sipped it for about twenty minutes whilst everyone else in the bar whispered and pointed. No one else dared approach either of them. I guess they were at the height of their fame around then.

Sometimes I catch a few lyrics to a song, or I see the words to a song and get something out of them by reading but, generally when I'm listening, it's the music I'm listening to. An exception to this was on hearing Vanessa Paradis' cover version of this song... perhaps it's her parallel career as an actress which invested her intonation so convincingly. I dunno. But it means something to me:
