indeed. thats awesome. i listened to it all over again, even during my driving lessons (on a tape, of course ) and converted my nice and rather young (he was about 28 back then) and famous-with-girls driving teacher into a "live" fan. he brought along some "marillion", "the beautiful south" and "the housemartins" then. fun.

bene, i believe youre a bit focused on the year 1994 as regards music? is it only alice in chains and live that you connect to this specific date?

I think the musical year 1994 sort of sucked, apart from my discovery of Heather Nova.

Swans released their final album then, Siouxsie and the Banshees split....

ah 1994, just having a scan through my collection and i found :

Jeff Buckley, Grace - a masterpiece for most people
dEUS - worst case scenario
Lisa Germano - Geek the girl
Grant Lee Buffalo - Mighty Joe Moon
Ben Harper - Welcome to the cruel world
....and of course the rather brilliant Hips and Makers from Kristin Hersh.

i won't mention Dookie by Greenday though

but i could have mentioned:
Stina Nordenstam - and she closed her eyes
pavement - crooked rain crooked rain
pink floyd - the division bell
portishead - dummy
paul weller - wild wood

But i didn't

You didn't mention?

Hmm, I'm sorry I didn't, but I don't know it yet... can you forgive me?

But I'm not sure if it could compete with:

Nirvana- Unplugged in New York
Stone Temple Pilots - Purple
Alice in Chains - Jar of Flies
Portishead - Dummy
Soundgarden - Superunknown
etc. etc. etc.

I have some Loreena songs on tape. I don't remember if this was a full album, or just a mix tape.

Yeah, she has some really nice songs.

Not Oyster?

I think 1994-96 were the best years for me in music. Most of my favorite bands made their best albums during these years, and I listened a lot to music. Heather, Tori, PJ, Penelope Houston, Elastica, Hole, Belly, Breeders, Veruca Salt, and many more; later I found out that also Kristin Hersh, Lisa Germano, and Susan Voelz had their peak years that time. I remember radio shows like "Revolution Radio" and "On The Edge" on AFN radio... This was a very great time.

Oh, I hope I'm not too much focussed on 1994, but it was the year when a lot of great albums were published, see above. The climax of Grunge, I think, then it went straight down... 1997 was the last year with really great music - in my opinion. After that most of the big bands split.

The year in music I most like is 1992. Pearl Jam released "Ten"...

I think it was even a naissance for me. Well, no, Heather Nova was the one who really got me into music and "opened" this world. And that was in 2001. But 2005 was awesome cos i discovered so many cool stuff and went to so many cool gigs. I still can't believe it. Great memories.
Of course, lots of artists i like released cds before.. Jeff Buckley and Ben Harper, for example. Like Bene said. Or PJ Harvey etc....
I hope 2006 will be the same.

Very interesting. I was born in 1974, and for me the best music years were 1995-1996, as I was 21 and 22 years old.

Julie is younger than me, and it fits to her, too!

Maybe everyone thinks the best music was the music in his or her early Twenties?

Hey, 2005 was one of my favourite years in music, too. so many awesome new releases with more than only four good songs on an album. I think it was my second best year since... 1985

I find it funny when people say stuff like, "that cd is good cos there're only a few songs that i don't like". For me, a good cd is when i like everything. If not, it's an ok cd.
But i guess you were being ironic. (ironical?)

I was quite disappointed with the music in 2005. Good albums by Heather and Garbage, and a fantastic comeback by Kate Bush, but that's all good that was released in 2005. And all those bands/singers are long in music business already, too.

And the very good Azure Ray's recordings were bought by me in 2005, but released earlier.

I hope 2006 will be better.
