Woody Guthrie has always been some sort of a hero to me. I remember getting this crappy sounding cassette from my aunt and listening to those songs over and over again, finally liking them too. Then I read a chapter about him in some book and got this picture of a rambling man very eager to hit the road even on foot, that's pretty much it... ![]()

What a great choice I love them all apart from the Charlotte Martin album but that's only because I haven't heard any of her material although a few people I speak to on different sites love her.

Why would I have an mp3 of that lying around? Hate that song, even with different words. It's too catchy! Yuck. This version was kinda funny, with a good punchline.

What interests me about this "top x albums" lark, as you rightly put it, "right now" is that as time goes by and/or you listen to other musics you discover or get recommended, your "top x albums" can undergo a bit of a radical overall...
At the moment, I love the work of Electrelane, a quartet of women, playing drums, bass, keyboards and guitar... the guitar player is one of the best I've ever heard... Perhaps a top 5 for me would look like: a ~ Heather Nova ~ Glow Stars b ~ King Crimson ~ Starless & Bible Black c ~ Robert Fripp ~ Exposure d ~ Morrissey ~ You are the quarry e ~ Alan Parsons Project ~ Turn Of A Friendly Card ...and in doing the above, I've missed out masses of other music I love from the "prog", "classical," "avant garde," "punk," "rock," "pop," etcetera... worlds...

Daniel Lanois - Acadie
Nena - CD2 of 'Cover Me' - (it has a terrific 'live' gig feel to the production, which particularly suits the old Rolling Stones numbers) Stavros Xarhakos - Lament for Ignacio Sanchez Mejias The Do - A Mouthful The Wreckers - Stand Still, Look Pretty

I don't have a top 5 albums list at any given moment.
Even narrowing it down to 5 all-time is pretty hard!

Yup!
CD1 I don't think I've listened to more than once but CD2 (the covers) is very good: they don't do 'interesting' things with the originals, but they perform them very well and, as I say, the record production is superb.

Jenny Lewis is someone I plan to check out.
Today's repeat-play favourite, though, is Ulrich Schnauss. Which has put me also in the mood to dig up some old Front 242 from iTunes. The latter have an, I suppose, alarmingly Proto-Right-Wing image but the music's pretty powerful. As for Uli, he has great chords. Epic, symphonic chord shifts ![]()

I meant 'image' as 'an impression created' rather than a visual image. I may be wrong in this, but I recall this crticism being levelled at them back in the late eighties when they came to prominence. Perhaps its just the threatening menace of the music but more likely the content of their lyrics. As I've said previously, I never pay much attention to lyrics so...

Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam
Heather Nova - Siren The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Electric Ladyland Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium Mad Season - Above "Mad Season" was a one album side band consisting of Mike McCready of pearl jam, Layne Staley of alice in chains, Mark Lannegan and Barret Martin of Screaming trees.) This is a diamond! I highly suggest giving it a listen if you like raw, powerful bluesy punches to the gut.
