I'm working on the collaborations lyrics to put up, and I've encountered a song I really need some help on.

I've done up the English and gotten the Dutch from Alwaysontherun, but it's hard for me to verify the Dutch. I fixed some Dutch words that obviously weren't there, but sometimes it doesn't sound like what I see but I don't know enough Dutch to know for sure.

So, all the Dutchies here, could you look over the Dutch lyrics in this song and correct them if there are any problems? If you can, please be as exact as possible and make sure what's written down is exactly what's sung.

Also, could someone provide an accurate translation of the Dutch?

And, of course, if anyone catches a problem in the English, let me know that too.

Mooie Dag
by Peter Slager and Heather Nova

(Verse 1 A)
Zon, zand
De hitte en de rustige rivier
De stilte en de droogte
En de leegte van dit hier

(Verse 2 A)
De hemel en de aarde
De weidsheid van het land
En de wijsheid van één man
Dat is genoeg

(Chorus A)
Er is niets waar ik op wacht
Morgen blijft het nacht
Ik overdacht mijn zorgen en de wereld
En alle keren dat ik wakker lag
Ik besloot
Wat een mooie dag
Wat een mooie dag

(Verse 1 B)
Valleys and the hills
And all the roads have brought me to this place
The endless sky
And the open sea

(Verse 2 B)
Winning and the wasted
There’s nothing to me now
And the love that I found
Was all I need

(Chorus B)
There’s nothing that I’ve waited for
But I think about the darkness
And all the sorrow in the world
And all the time I lay awake at home
What a beautiful day
What a beautiful day

(Chorus C)
(Er is niets waar ik op wacht) (There’s nothing that I’ve waited for)
(Morgen blijft het nacht) (I think about the sun)
(Ik overdacht mijn zorgen en de wereld) (And all the sorrow in the world)
(En alle keren dat ik wakker lag) (And all the time I lay awake at home)
(Ik besloot)
(Wat een mooie dag) (What a beautiful day)
(Wat een mooie dag) (What a beautiful day)

(Chorus D)
(Er is niets waar ik op wacht) (There’s nothing that I’ve waited for)
(Morgen blijft het nacht) (Think about the darkness)
(Ik overdacht mijn zorgen en de wereld) (And all the sorrow in the world)
(En alle keren dat ik wakker lag) (And all the time I lay awake at home)
(Ik besloot)
(Wat een mooie dag) (What a beautiful day)
(Wat een mooie dag) (What a beautiful day)

(Denouement)
Ay, ay, yeh-ay, yeh-ay, yeh-ay (:Heather)
Ay, yay, yay (ay) (:Blof (Heather))
Ay-yeh (oo-oo-oo) ay-yeh (:Blof (Heather))

(Wat een mooie dag) (What a beautiful day)
(Wat een mooie dag) (What a beautiful day)
(Voor de dood)

I heard this song a while ago. I'm sorry to say that I really don't like dutch people sing

There are no real mistakes in the dutch part:

"Sea, sand
The heat and the calm river
The silence and the dryness
And the emptiness of it all.

Heaven and earth
The wideness of the land
And the wisdom of one man
That is enough.

There's nothing I'm waiting for
Tomorrow it'll still be night
Pondering on my worries and the world
And all the times I lay awake
I decided
What a beautiful day
What a beautiful day"

See, I don't know much Dutch, but I sure don't hear any "de" or "het" in the first phrase of the song which they say is "De zon, het zand". Those are the only two words I removed myself... I really need a native speaker to check stuff like this.

But thanks for the link... it might be helpful.

Changes in Dutch and English parts, not sure of all the english parts. And i think "at home" is not what she sings!
It is "I thought" (similar to the dutch)

Mooie Dag
by Peter Slager and Heather Nova

(Verse 1 A)
Zon, 't zand
De hitte en de rustige rivier
De stilte en de droogte
En de leegte van dit hier

(Verse 2 A)
De hemel en de aarde
De weidsheid van het land
En de wijsheid van één man
was mij genoeg

(Chorus A)
Er is niets waar ik op wacht
Morgen blijft het nacht
Ik overdacht m'n zorgen en de wereld
En alle keren dat ik wakker lag
Ik besloot
Wat een mooie dag
Wat een mooie dag

(Verse 1 B)
Valleys and the hills
And all the roads that brought me to this place
The endless sky
And the open sea

(Verse 2 B)
Winning and the wasting
Is nothing to me now
And the love that I found
Was all I need

(Chorus B)
There’s nothing that I am waiting for
Think about the darkness
And all the sorrow in the world
And all the time I lay awake at home
What a beautiful day
What a beautiful day

(Chorus C)
(Er is niets waar ik op wacht) (There’s nothing that I am waiting for)
(Morgen blijft het nacht) (I think about the sun)
(Ik overdacht m'n zorgen en de wereld) (And all the sorrow in the world)
(En alle keren dat ik wakker lag) (And all the time I lay awake at home)
(Ik besloot)
(Wat een mooie dag) (What a beautiful day)
(Wat een mooie dag) (What a beautiful day)

(Chorus D)
(Er is niets waar ik op wacht) (There’s nothing that I am waiting for)
(Morgen blijft het nacht) (Think about the darkness)
(Ik overdacht m'n zorgen en de wereld) (And all the sorrow in the world)
(En alle keren dat ik wakker lag) (And all the time I lay awake at home)

Ay, yay, yay (ay) (:Blof (Heather))
Ay-yeh (oo-oo-oo) ay-yeh (:Blof (Heather))

(Wat een mooie dag) (What a beautiful day)

Alright, I've gone over your lyrics Arne and replaced the Dutch. Your changes do indeed sound better.

For your English changes, I think some were right and some not, and for others I thought it was something neither of us proposed. Still have questions about a couple lines:

The second line of Verse 2 B: Does it start "is" "there's" or "means". I'm leaning towards the latter now since it makes the most sense and seems to fit the sound better. I'd love to hear other opinions, though.

The other tough place is the third to last line of the chorus, right after "And all the time I lay awake". Is it "at home", "at dawn" or "I thought"? The first letters of the second world of it almost sound like "cl" for "clot" or something, but I can't think of anything that makes sense. I've put Arne's suggestion of "I thought" in for now, but I really would like to know what others think.

Also, if another Dutchie could give me an opinion on the current (Arne's) version of the Dutch lyrics, that'd be nice. As shown with the English, always great to have more people look over it.

Scary enough too, I'm beginning to like this song...

Mooie Dag
by Peter Slager and Heather Nova

(Verse 1 A)
Zon, 't zand
De hitte en de rustige rivier
De stilte en de droogte
En de leegte van dit hier

(Verse 2 A)
De hemel en de aarde
De weidsheid van het land
En de wijsheid van één man
Was mij genoeg

(Chorus A)
Er is niets waar ik op wacht
Morgen blijft het nacht
Ik overdacht m'n zorgen en de wereld
En alle keren dat ik wakker lag
Ik besloot
Wat een mooie dag
Wat een mooie dag

(Verse 1 B)
Valleys and the hills
And all the roads that brought me to this place
The endless sky
And the open sea

(Verse 2 B)
Winning and the wasting
Means nothing to me now
And the love that I found
Was all I need

(Chorus B)
There’s nothing that I’m waiting for
But I think about the darkness
And all the sorrow in the world
And all the time I lay awake, I thought
What a beautiful day
What a beautiful day

(Chorus C)
(Er is niets waar ik op wacht) (There’s nothing that I'm waiting for)
(Morgen blijft het nacht) (I think about the sun)
(Ik overdacht m'n zorgen en de wereld) (And all the sorrow in the world)
(En alle keren dat ik wakker lag) (And all the time I lay awake, I thought)
(Ik besloot)
(Wat een mooie dag) (What a beautiful day)
(Wat een mooie dag) (What a beautiful day)

(Chorus D)
(Er is niets waar ik op wacht) (There’s nothing that I’m waiting for)
(Morgen blijft het nacht) (Think about the darkness)
(Ik overdacht m'n zorgen en de wereld) (And all the sorrow in the world)
(En alle keren dat ik wakker lag) (And all the time I lay awake, I thought)
(Ik besloot)
(Wat een mooie dag) (What a beautiful day)
(Wat een mooie dag) (What a beautiful day)

(Denouement)
Ay, ay, yeh-ay, yeh-ay, yeh-ay (:Heather)
Ay, yay, yay (ay) (:Blof (Heather))
Ay-yeh (oo-oo-oo) ay-yeh (:Blof (Heather))

(Wat een mooie dag) (What a beautiful day)
(Wat een mooie dag) (What a beautiful day)
(Voor de dood)

As for the translation, I've dared to make a couple changes to Tigress's translation. Since Arne changed the last line of the second verse, I changed it to fit this, I think. Is "was enough for me" right? In the chorus, I also changed "Pondering on" to "I ponder", cause I know "Ik" means "I", so I thought that should be in there, right? Also thought it made more sense to remove the "on" which doesnt seem to be in the Dutch anyway.

For the second line of the chorus, is "Tomorrow it'll still be night" the best way to say translate it? Not sure I see all the words there, but does it capture the meaning well?

Oh, and I added "the" before "sand", since Arne put that in in the Dutch, I think.

Tigress, Arne, or anyone else, lemme know anything I've done wrong or I can do to improve this. Thanks!

(Verse 1 A Translation)
Sea, the sand
The heat and the calm river
The silence and the dryness
And the emptiness of it all

(Verse 1 B Translation)
Heaven and earth
The wideness of the land
And the wisdom of one man
Was enough for me

(Chorus A Translation)
There's nothing I'm waiting for
Tomorrow it'll still be night
I ponder my worries and the world
And all the times I lay awake
I decided
What a beautiful day
What a beautiful day

(Denouement Translation)
What a beautiful day
What a beautiful day
For death

Some of the "de" and stuff are meant to be in there possibly, but not sang, or just "briefed up" really fast. I'm sure similar stuff with English happens. btw, the English and Dutch translation came from me trying to hear out the Dutch sounds too (after using a Dutch translator online, yes), so you could credit me a bit since you took it from Alwaysontherun, lol.

I also apparently have a credit on some HN discography page that I think Bernd is or was doing where I actually noticed and bought an expensive 4 CD compilation with that song on it that I don't know who else has, probably people in the Netherlands who are Heather or Blof fans. I'm not sure if you can get the song on a single or such. Counting Crows and I think another band or in that huge compilation too.

I don't know how Michel contributed on always on the run, but I just remember that I definitely put some Dutch in there.

You used the original Dutch lyrics from the official Blof website too, right? You didn't do the Dutch lyrics from scratch, did you? And yes, you'll get credit. I looked at your lyrics a bit as I did the English, though I did change things. And I listen for the things that are really fast... in the first line, I don't hear them, especially at the start, unless it somehow changes the first consonant of those nouns. This is why I was asking for native speakers' help... they'll know a lot better than me.

You're talking about www.heathernova-info.com, the site now managed by Bernd. It's easily the best discography for Heather on the net for as long as I can remember. Great for seeing what albums songs came from and what releases have been made.

Cool. I'm pretty sure I used a translator, and then attempted to sound out the sounds a bit.

hm, if Blof actually has the Dutch lyrics, I probably just pretty much used those or I missed those and did the above instead. I don't remember exactly, too long ago. I must've translated the English version word for word though as much as possible. I'm definitely no "dutchie" lol.

Bernd had linked above.

Great job getting as close as you did with a translator, though. Don't know how that'd work sometimes since the lyrics dont always match very well in meaning between the Dutch and English.

I see how he found them now. he clicked on the discography, and then each album has a set of lyrics. They don't have the exact lyrics of the 4 disc compilation. The version shown on their website is without Heather Nova. Heather Nova is on the 4 disc (greatest hits I think it is) only, and Counting Crows are on that 4 disc thing too. Not knowing any dutch, it was hard to order from that website.
