I'm still considering to buy a laptop.

I think it will be a Mac even if it makes no sense maybe for some in terms of usibility or whatever. I like that stylish Mac's. Call me crazy. What I consider is to buy a MacBook Pro instead of the MacBook laptop as of the better graphics performance. In terms of look i would prefer the white MacBook. The MacBook Pro is "only" available in silver so. Well I like power and design, not design only. The MacBook's are great, but probably i would like to do more.

well if you need the good graphics, just get a Pro and don't care about the silver look. i saw Pro and it looks great as well..

And it is naturally to like Mac's style, nothing crazy 'bout that

I have no doubt about it. They all look great. I think we just have different requirements and therefore need probably different MACs. I would love to have both actually.

Well alle three would be great, the white, the black and the silver one
Just cannot afford so much. It's hard to get at least one! I hopefully will get some money in february for the hundreds of hours I worked overtime. That could be a chance to buy.

Thinking of the configuration, the MacBook would be 1429 Euro, (the white one. 13,3" display, with 2.0 GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 120GB disk). The MacBookPro in the configuration I like would be 2519,01 Euro (15" display, 2.33 GHz processor, 2GB RAM, 160GB disk, ATI X1600 256MB graphics).

Today I went to mediamark as they have a big Apple separtment now. So I saw the first time the MacBook and MacBook Pro. The MacBook Pro is not that much bigger actually and I love the metallic finish of the MacBook Pro more than the plastic finish.Nayway that is not that much important. I will go for the MacBook Pro! I found a store which has it 150 Euro cheaper than the Apple Store.

All I need is the money now

Getting Money/Mac's or whatever is not a criterion for me to choose the girlfriend!

We have an Ibook since four years now. I like that it's so easy to use. But for special applications I need a windows box. The new Ibooks can run both ?

Yes you can run Windows XP on it, that'a why i will choose a bigger harddisk then standard. The MacBook's/Pro have an Intel CPU (Dual Core 2 Duo). You just need BootCamp 1.1.2 (Freware by Apple) to make a partition for Windows.

There was a test recently in the c't magazin (24/06).

There exists also a Virtual PC software, So you can run probaly Linux as well.

What is the main difference between a standard PC and a Mac?

Well the architecture was different (especially the CPU) and the operationg system was different. But the newer Apples like the MacBook and Macbook Pro uses Intel CPU's like windows PC's.
There are still some minor issues in hardware so that not everything of windows will work on a MAC.
The laptops for example only have one button at the touchpad, Widows PC have two. But meanwhile there is a solution to emulate a right "mouse button" ad so on ..

For someone who has never owned a Mac in his life, what would you folks recommend, if I was thinking of buying one?

For info, I e-mail a lot, use music websites, and eBay/Pay Pal as well as financial websites...

It really depends on whether you want a laptop or not. A MacBook or an iMac would be enough for your needs.

A topic about Mac...
I have a question for the Mac users here.
I'm not a computerspecialist, so my question may sound stupid, please don't shoot me.
I would like to use a webcam on my Mac to talk with some friends.
Now, they all use msn messenger, but the video part is not included in the latest Mac version. Is there another system that I can use, to talk with friends that are logged in on msn messenger and I can use my own hotmail address?
I someone has an answer to this, it would save me lots of time!

Just asked a computer expert friend of mine... apparently you should be able to use Yahoo Messenger and a program called Gaim

Thanks a lot Darren! I will certainly try that.

@ Johan: I'm fine. What do you mean with "sorry, I can't help"?

This mornig I went to the laptop shop where I will buy my MacBook Pro. A big and very professional shop. I could now compare the glossy screen to the normal screen. I will go then for the glossy screen. It looks much better from the colors. As of the reflection of the screen, i think I can live with it.

If they had offered me a free upgrade to the forthcoming, probably in march available new MacOS (Leopard), I had ordered it right away. The shop will immediately inform me when the laptop is available with the new MacOS. The Configuration I will be:

MacBook Pro, 2.33 GHz Dual Core 2 processor, 2GB memory, 160GB harddisk, 256MB Video Card (ATI X1600), Glossy screen with 1440x900pixels.

Makes it 2439 Euro in the shop, or 2599 Euro on the official appl.de website.

I ordered now a TV card which only fits to MAC PCs so far. This card was tested very well from my favourite magazine. It fit's great to a Mac Express slot. much better than any USB stick as it somehow hides within the laptop.
