i rented two movies last night. one was the ray charles movie, "ray", which was good.

the other was the gus van zandt movie, "elephant", which was good, but incredibly disturbing. when violence is portrayed in such a cold, real way, it's hard to just put it out of your head after you see it. unlike the typical hollywood action movie or whatever.
i assume that it was influenced by the columbine massacre.

oh, and watching elephant reminded me of how good gus van zandt is as a director. underrated in my opinion.

Out of time with Denzel Washington. It didn't take long to figure out what was happening.

Still, a good movie.

That girl Eva Mendez should make more movies...

1984. I don't read a lot but I read this book last year and really liked it. Since I don't read much (and don't watch all that many movies either), I rarely read a book and then watch a movie. This is a case where I'd say the movie was good, but the book was more complete and better. While I am usually too lazy and just watch the movie, I guess now I see why my friends who read a lot always say that about movies. Anyway, it was still a good movie but without the details contained in the book.

By the way Bruno, were you able to find a Califone album to listen to (the group I kept forgetting the name of)? If so I'm curious what you thought.

I saw first The League with Sean Connery and then Life with Eddie Murphy today.

Two decent good movies. Life's gotta be Eddie Murphy's best movie he's ever starred in.

Last movie I watched was The Gamers on DVD... a fantastically funny independant flick about a group of rpg-players, mostly based on D&D, even though their system is slightly different. I'd seen it when I first got the DVD a while ago, but it was even funnier than I remembered.

It's about this group of people playing D&D and they show them playing and also the actions of their characters in the fantasy world. Much of the humor revolves around the silliness of how things look in the fantasy world based on the game, especially when a player and DM argue about what the characters do and stuff.

If anyone here is into D&D or other table-top RPGs, I whole heartedly recommend it. http://gamers.deadgentlemen.com/

Oh, and their making a second The Gamers movie, this time a full feature-length film. The first one is just 48 minutes, unfortunately, but still very funny.

Oh, and I'll watch Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! in about a week.

I watched another episode of Queer as Folk. It was better than the pilot. But I still hate the camerawork, and some of the acting isn't so great. I still haven't given up on it, though. I'll watch the next disc worth of shows.

I saw Sideways today. It was good. Not all sorts of amazing that everyone told me it would be (I really have to stop listening to "everybody"), but decent. I liked it.

I watched some of that not too long ago, Edie Brikell does a great cover of a hard rain's a gonna fall.

Hey, I was channel surfing the other night and I saw a show called Book TV, this woman was talking about her father who died in Vietnam.
Amazon Link
It was very moving, if anyone has a chance to see it I'd definitely check it out.

Christina, I didn't have a chance to tell you because the website blew up or whatever, but I thought your Oyster poem was beautiful.

I tend to get a little corny sometimes. What I meant, was, that I really liked it.

Anyway, I happened to catch the last 15 min. of the Wilco concert on Austin City Limits, last night.

I haven't said anything about the show I saw, until now, because it always seems like I'm bragging or something.
But that's not me AT ALL. Trust me.
So, just for the record, it was an amazing concert. One of the best I've ever seen.

I watched a three hour movie. Except not. Only 2 hours and 50 minutes of it, because the last ten minutes won't play! You invest that much time in a movie, you'd like to know how it ends, you know?

I managed the other evening to watch a whole Doctor Who story, before collapsing in a heap. The 3rd Incarnation, Jon Pertwee in The Claws of Axos.

I just watched The Woodsman today. Very good movie. I don't think any movie has affected me this emotionally since Lord of the Rings. I just cried during half the movie.

It may not be perfect, but it's very good. I strongly recommend it to anyone.

This has been a movie weekend. An old movie weekend.

Last night I saw The Thin Man and tonight we went to The Silent Movie Theatre and saw

Harold Lloyd in Never Weaken
Buster Keaton in The Scarecrow
Charlie Chaplin in The Vagabond
Charley Chase in Mighty Like a Moose
and a Felix the Cat cartoon, and a very funny public service anouncement about women being asked to remove their atrocious hats in the movie theater.

It was all great! We laughed so much. I'd never seen anything with Charley Chase before. He was good. But Buster's still my favorite.

It's very cool to be able to see silent films on the big screen and with live accompaniment. Definitely a nice thing about living in LA.

I saw a silent movie with live accompaniement right here in Silver Spring. Unfortunately they had sound problems half way through and had to switch to the movie's prechorded music. Was interesting at least I suppose. It was Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans, btw.

Alas, the Silver hasn't run a silent film in awhile. It's programming of late hasnt been great... then again they were showing The Woodsman for awhile but it sounded boring because all the descriptions left out the key fact that it's about a paedophile trying to reenter society after 12 years in prison. Atleast it was playing in Bethesda.
