A plug, I'm afraid...

I've recently started a new project with a female singer called Strange Moments. We've finished 4 demos so far and you can check them out here:

https://soundcloud.com/strangemoments

and there's a FB page too:

https://www.facebook.com/StrangeMomentsPL

One of the songs is a reworked version of the Heather Nova tribute I wrote callewd Oysters And Sirens. In a slightly higher key, with Joanna's vocals, it sounds much better than my solo demo from almost a year ago.

Do let me know what you think and doo give us a like on FB if indeed you like what you hear :)

What a professionnal sound ! I'm impressed.

I like best Oysters and Sirens and Thirteen.

I'd notice, though, that some somgs tend to be to long, and that it seems to be to "noisy" for me to listen a long time (I mean the lenght of an entire CD, for example). I really don't know if there's because there are too much songs effect to me, or because the instruments tend to cover the voice too much (especially in chorus parts), ot if there are too much instruments or arrangments to me. or, maybe, too much effects in the voice.

That's only my personnal taste, of course, but except for the two songs I really like, when I listen, it's like I'm having a sound indigestion, or like I was eating a cake good but with too much cream, sugar and better... only good things, but too much. Once again, it's totally subjective (except, maybe, the soud of the instruments covering the voice, especially in some places, often the choruses).

But even if I complain about some things concerning the arrangements, i have nothing to criticize about the songs themselves, or melodies, and I like them.

Well, thanks.

Sonically speaking, these recodings are far from perfect, of course. I made them in my bedroom and what I have here cannot be by any means called a home studio. And I don't really know anything about mixing, so it's all trial and error. But I guess as demos for a potential record they sound ok.

And yes, it's deliberately dense. I got bored with my usual atmospheric quasi-progressive stuff and wanted to try something different, make it pure essence. IMO, though, there's still some room to breathe in those tracks. And, as you said, it's all a matter of taste. For example if you listen mostly to singer-songwriter stuff, our music may be a bit over stimulating :D

Btw, we're currently performing as an acoustic duo so I have to play all that stuff on one acoutic guitar. And that's quite a challenge, as it's not the way most of these numbers were written.

Sure, it's a matter of taste (except maybe for the voice, which is somethimes eaten by the instruments - maybe you coul change this in the final balance of the songs), and I'm not used to listening to this kind of music. I like your expression "space to breathe", because it retranscribes the feeling I had listening : not having space to breathe in the song.

But now I'm waiting for the acoustic versions.

I've just made an acoustic mix of Detuned (which is based on how we play it live) to promote our upcoming show this Thursday. It uses the same vocals, although mixed very differently and there are only two acoustic guitar parts throughout. Unfortunately I can't get the sound I'd like on the guitar in my bedroom but I think it's just about ok and it's a very different arrangement. Check it out!

Thank you. I'm quite happy with this arrangement, considering the song was entirely written on keys and the guitars were the last thing to be added to the original arrangement.

We have a new track out called "A Shot In The Dark"

https://soundcloud.com/strangemoments/shot

This one's quite complex rhythmically but at the same time it's under 4 minutes and quite catchy methinks. And it also features my first ever proper synth solo. Do check it out!

I've finally completed a new solo track called Stay Under Cover. This one's a prog epic and features a gitar solo by Lee Smith - a great Australian guitar player, who also provided the final mix. I'm very proud of this track - do check it out please :)

You can now stream huge portions of our acoustic concert, which took place on 21.11.15 at Pod Kolumnami in Wrocław. You can also download the recording for only 5PLN and support the band that way. Warning: bootleg quality, but listenable

I've just edited a clip from our last night's acoutic gig. It's the song Oysters & Sirens. You can check it out here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVz1ODTfSzk

It was shot with three stationary cams. The sound was mixed from the soundboard and ambient mics. It's nowhere near a professional recording but I think it's quite pleasant to listen and watch. More will follow.

Thank you! Yep, it's a strong song though it's not the most natural one to play in such a sparse arrangement.

Anyway, some more vids:

I've just edited a new clip - a live cover of 'Island'!

We're not trying to better Heather, obviously, but I do think Joanna really shines on this performance:

It's been a while but we finally have new track out (and there's more to come).

This one's called Let Me In and I think it's pretty good, if I may say so myself. Beware though it has quite a dense, electronics-filled arrangement which may not suit every Heather fan.
