These songs which are better live than on CD

The recent conversation around "Aquamarine" made me want to open a thread where people could discuss the songs which are definitely better on stage than on CD.

I guess there must be preferences here and there scattered on the forum, but I thought it could be good to have a single thread to exchange views.

I was conveinced by the live version of Aquamarine which was recently posted on a thread (but which one I can't remember). I would also apply this category to the whole "South" CD (the first title that comes to my mind is "If I saw You in a Movie" which is not really good album version, but OK live).

Just Been Born

Way, way, way better live than on the CD. When she opens up her vocals on this song without all the stupid effects on the CD and with a band rocking behind her... it's just magic. Was so happy she played this during the one rock concert of hers I went to.

Verona

This song just sounds great live and the included poems really put it over the top. My favorite poem in this song is probably you moved like an animal.

Welcome

The acoustic live version of this song is actually ok. The album version is one of her weaker songs. Big improvement.

Sugar

The album version is good, but Berit has really made this song her own over the years. I think of it as something of a duet between Heather and Berit now.

All I Need

The best thing about this song is it's sound and that really comes across better live. The best live versions feature a wonderful crescendo at the end that just feels powerful. I really like Berit's guitar on this in last fall's tour, but other live versions have been good too.

Listening to the Ghent concert, I'm reminded of one more big one:

Winterblue

Not a huge fan of the album version and some of the live versions in the past haven't won me over, as I recall. But when Berit lays down a strong guitar on this track and Heather's vocals are strong and she includes a good poem at the end, the results can be sublime. Perhaps I find the track a bit overplayed, but it's clearly better live than on the album.

Indeed. I like the live version from Stay.
On the album It's the only song I don't like.

All I need, Talk to me, Winterblue, Sugar and Aquamarine. And I totally agree with Cassander’ s comments regarding Berith’ s guitar play.

Talk to me!

To me, the difference between album and live is way bigger than in any other song!

I just 'rediscovered' South and Siren. And although there are amazing songs on it, half of it is not that good.

A big contrast to Oyster, of which all songs are amazing.

Same for Glow Stars (brilliant).
