The tournament starts June 7th...

I remember, two years ago, at the World Cup, we made two competitions, one run by me, one run by Cassander. Anyone interesting in betting on the Euro 2008 as well?

I'll participate if someone else runs it, but I won't be running it myself

The same would be true for any other region's tournament, though my favorite team is in Europe, obviously.

Still kinda funny that I support Croatia over the USA, Ireland, or England (I even have some German ancestry, actually..), but I guess it's partly due to uniqueness and partly due to rooting for them in 1998 all the way to the semifinals.

Still, the World Cup is what matters!

Btw, are we going to do anything for the Olympics this year? Soccer or otherwise?

The male soccer tournament at Olympics is usually not that interesting, as most teams cannot play with their best teams. It's more a youth championship.

I'd be in if there will be a competition. And since France is going to win anyway...

My guess for Monday:

In the 3rd minute, Lehmann will make a foul against some Austrian player, Lehmann will see the red card and Enke will be the new goalkeeper. Vastic will do the penalty shot and he scores. 1-0 for Austria.

In the 89th minute, Podolski will make an offside goal, but the referee won't see it was offside. 1-1.

And then the game is over. Germany qualifies for the quarter final.

Well, up to now the Austrians helped the Germans by playing 1-1 against Poland (I had even guessed that result right!).

But the German game yesterday was a catastrophe. I don't know what to expect from the game in Vienna now...

But there was something very surprising in town yesterday: the big Croatian community was celebrating their victory extensively - and the German fans had been very, very fair - many even joined the celebrations!

Now, all fingers crossed for France! Sorry, Arne...

Btw, good luck to Germany from here on out (unless they play Croatia again in the finals ). I have nothing against you guys, just excited for Croatia.

I regret not taking off work to watch the game now that I know how it went, but perhaps I will for the quarterfinals or semifinals.

We need quoting! Well, I'm just happy to have the boards, but quoting would be real nice to have again... well, we have YouTube now, when we didn't before.

As for the video, yeah, they are obviously policing those. I was hoping this would be up for a few hours or something, but apparently not.

You don't know what to expect from the game in Vienna, Bene?: a crazy girl in american football equipment blocking the goal and in worst case running down all German players! I need to win my bet...

Tip 1: if the Dutch keep on playing that excellent they surely make it to the final or even become champion. (Sorry Bene, btw. )

Tip 2: As i fear the Germans are quite fed up after the match versus Croatia they'll try to blow us away and will win 3:1 or even 4:1. Don't know why, i have a bad feeling about this at least at the moment....

In terms of the german team, If they had won against Croatia they would just relax in the next game.
It is so typical with german soccer teams that they do not more than needed in the beginning of the tournament!
After that lost game agains Croatia, I am sure they will try to blow away Austria!

Sure they will do, and there I'm sure Germany will get lots of penalty shootouts in the tournament as well! For example in a possible final against The Netherlands.

I did enjoy last night's game, a lot texting my French friends...great banter. The Dutch are making that "group of death" moniker look stupid now having 6 points, scored 7 goals and conceded only 1. They can rest players also for the last match as they have already won the group...too easy

oh and Germany will beat Austria 5-0

Yeah, but 5:0 isn’t 3:0 and i’d be safe. (Still thinking about my ante...) I hope badly for the Austrians to qualify but if the Germans are going to win (which is most likely) then hopefully just by shooting 1 goal or even 2 but not 3 !!!! Maybe I should have a word with Jogi Löw…

Um, Bernd, one problem: Turkey will lose to Croatia on Friday, June 20 and will beat whatever team on Wednesday, June 25. :D

Btw, the red card for Turkey's goalie at the end of yesterday's game means that he cannot play in the game against Croatia, right?
