I saw a Dog's Breakfast the other day. A hilarious independent movie by David Hewlett with a bunch of Stargate actors.

Hi Bene!

"The prisoner of Azkaban"? Well, I have to admit it's my favorite film of the "Harry Potter" serial (didn't read any of the books! ). It's the one with Gary Oldman who can transform into a dog, right?

Hope you've passed a Merry Christmas, anyway!

Yeah, Gary Oldman, he looked like a member of a Seattle band...
But I admit that I do not like the Potter movies much anyway (too much computer animation). But at least the other two ones I saw (two and four) had some more tension...

Thanks for the Christmas wishes - hope you enjoyed the time

Is this a German movie about a fat guy traveling to the origins of Blues?

I guess wrong expectations...
I thought it would be like "Cast Away"
But it was about killing monsters and totally no humor

Yes, that's the movie I had meant.
I just wondered why a German film with an English title gets a different English title in the English-speaking countries - that's confusing isn't it?
I like the protagonist actor (Horst Krause), but the movie itself is... yes, I'd share your comment, plus: sometimes it is rather boring.

The woman who plays Piaf is such a talented actress, although I'm not French and maybe that's why Piaf's music just doesn't strike a chord with me. Strange really, since there's so much French music I *do* love...
Anyway, Ms.Cotillard isn't so talented in the film 'A Good Year' with the Bladerunner director and that Ozzie guy out of Gladiator. But she's waaaaaay hotter in it

Not a movie, strictly speaking, but over the last few breakfast times I've been watching Heimat II. Each episode is quite long so I've only just seen up to the close of episode 2. Anyways, it really enjoyable... all the characters are interesting and likeable and, thematics-wise, it's of more personal interest to me than Heimat I, although it was great stuff also (when I watched it, many years ago).

Really? I agree with cookie that it's the best of the series... a lovely dark mood and look to it, with lots of interestingly little details. Wonderful movie, I'd say, that revived my interest in the series.

I quite liked the last Harry movie (order of the phoenix). I hated the book to be honest...think it's the weakest of them all...but the movie has Gary Oldman and Alan Rickman amongst others....great stuff.

i started watching Heroes yesterday. My brother persuaded "Santa" that I should see this...I have now seen the first 2 episodes. Tis kinda weird but so far it's ok. I like the Japanese guy, Hiro

I got The Lives of Others as a xmas present but not watched it yet. Also The Science of Sleep....have heard good things about both so am curious.

I've never watched any Harry Potter nor read any. Nor have I ever had the slightest inclination to. There's something wonderfully uplifting, I find, in a world chock-full of dazzling, beguiling, interesting things, to say of something: I'm simply uninterested. Not to spite the thing concerned, just to be free and unconcerned...

You don't like the man? Funnily, Tom Cruise used to be a star who'd 'close' a movie in terms of my interest. However, having turned the other way so many times, I'm now more inclined to think the reverse. Although in terms of big stars, Johnny Depp is more likely to signal to me a movie that's worth watching simply because he comes across as a character in real life I can identify with on a number of levels, aspirationally at any rate (!) Am I right in thinking he decided to take part in the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' franchise so that his children would be able to enjoy something he was in?

I quite respect his talent as an actor, but Tom Cruise has acted irrationally once too many for me (Scientology, Katie Holmes, his daughter, Oprah, etc.). It just doesn't makes me want to go to his movies anymore, unless they receive rave reviews.

I really like Johnny Depp. He has played some wonderful roles (I remember a particulary performance as Edward Scissorhands), and even though he sometimes plays really weird characters he always makes me feel for them as if they were real.
I think you're quite right about Pirates. But I really don't care, his role was the best! (even got me talking like a teenage groupie )

The *original* War Of The Worlds is far better than the remake... and if you can find the original radio broadcast of Orson Welles narrating, so much the better...

Two brilliant films, both this morning, and older one and one just new out.

The first was 'Mon Per Ce Heros' watched during breakfast on my fabulously huge new television screen. [ 42 inches!!! ]
Then off to the cinema to see 'Juno'.

They're both 'coming of age' films, I suppose, but so much more than that. Both funny (as in 'haha' not '?') and yet both quite profound in the warmth of humanity that comes across. Unlike the Hollywood mainstream, the viewer here is credited with the ability to understand complex emotional dynamics as an evolving reality, rather than being made into some dumb cartoon of good versus bad.

Don't you have some Heather Nova concert footage with her singing "Widescreen"?

That's funny. I often watch this movie (the David Cronenberg version) for the same reason, when I'm feeling too tired to concentrate on something new. I can nearly speak the dialogues by heart now

I quite liked Babel.. though i'm not in a rush to see it again. Quite a simple plot but very nicely carried out.

I saw Sweeney Todd (lots of singing) and No country for old men (hardly any music at all) at weekend. ST had me laughing most of the time even though it's not a comedy. No Country was very good. Coen brothers at their typical best.

The Island starring Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson. She's insanely boring so Ewan saved the movie. Although I must say there was far too much chasing. Let the people stand still for a moment will you!

I want to watch a whole movie but I haven't got the concentration.
I have a recommendation though: 'Naissance des Pieuvres' directed by Celine Sciamma. It's low-key but beautifully acted. Everything it has to say is rather subtle but, psychologically, it's far more true to teenage life than any Hollywood version I've seen. Even though it's about girls, I recognised plenty in it.

I watched Battlestar Galactica the miniseries with my parents the other day.

First time I saw it I fell asleep and thought it was boring since I had this weird idea in my mind that scifi sucked. So my bf made me watch a lot of it and now I'm a bigger scifi freak than he is.
