Behold...The Arctopus, who play very precise, tight avant-garde jass rock... their album "Nano-Nucleonic Cyborg Summonin" I'm listening to now, and is amazing...

Used to be known as Jai. Only had one album, which was an excellent composition of ambient pop even though it didn't do particularly well. It seems it was critically acclaimed quite a bit in the US though.

You can hear and d/l some of his old stuff off of http://www.myspace.com/jaiheaven

Anyone have any suggestions for ethereal/ambient music artists w/ or w/o vocals that I might like that I should check out? Thanks.

I checked my mp3 player under the heading "ambient/dream pop" but it came up with bands like The Sundays, Gemma Hayes, Mercury Rev, Cocteau Twins, Splendid...so not much use there

you could check out Autamata´s first record called My sanctuary...more electronic though but really good stuff!! there are some samples here http://www.irishmusiccentral.com/autamata/sounds.html

Google Ambient Music... or check out Brian Eno, Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, Robert Fripp (Soundscapes), etc.

Yes.

I also discovered Damien Rice recently, it's the same kind of music.

I just downloaded Tangerine Dream - Blue Sunday and it seems fairly good for background music. I don't think I could listen to it on a daily basis, but, maybe put it on while I get dinner together for myself and a date.

I discovered in the last couple of month the music from Mary Chapin Carpenter. For many years now I knew one of her hits "He thinks he'll keep her", but in august this year I saw a video on youtube from one of her performances and I got a bit hooked. Now I have some of her albums and am very pleased with them.

I knew about Nash at about the same time you did! I also like Jim Bryson- mellow indie pop.
