Really an epic piece of work! It made me somehow think of bands like Pink Floyd as well.

I couldn't say it better, you expressed exactly what I feel and probably unable to explain so precise myself! Probably the best statement ever here in the forums, at least for me! Thanks so much!

Donít get me wrong, after listening to Oyster and Siren just recently, I really like the rock songs, too, but thatís not, what I immediately associate with Heather, although Island and Siren are classics, of course. For me, I just think, she is "the loudest" with her quietest songs.

Thank you very much for the lyrics, Cass!!

I had the chorus after further listening, but the lyrics in the verses were the problem.
I like the tune and rhythm of this song. Maybe, itís kind of a play on words with roses and rose gold. All in all a metaphor for (blooming) love, marriage and bonds (jewellery, wedding rings made out of rose gold)? I have further thoughts about it, but thatís not the right thread here...

Another correction: it's "take a leap now" (instead of "take a leave now") in the 1st verse of "After all this time".

Have you done "Rose gold" as well (or did you only refer to "The wounds we bled")?
Last year, I was only eager to find out "After all this time", which was relatively easy (with the help from others here). After listening to "Rose gold" twice or so, I gave up trying, as I would have much too many gaps and thought, weíd get the lyrics with the album anyway. But unfortunately not. Itís my 3rd favourite song from the new ones, after "After all this time" and "Just kids".
Otherwise Iíll try it again myself, but Iím no native speaker, which makes it more difficult as well.

Funny, you had the same idea! I'm almost through all the Heather albums now.

For me, the cd year has only begun with the new Melissa Etheridge und Glen Hansard albums, both released mid-April.
Not fond of the first few songs on the ME album, but fortunately it got much better towards the end.
But very disappointed by the Glen Hansard one. Like his two former albums, it doesnít touch me like the wonderful "Rhythm and repose" from 2012 does.

Recently: all Heather albums in reverse order. Right now it's "Tested" on "South".
Interesting to hear them all again in a short time. Wondering another time, why she doesn't play some songs more often or at all, there are so many "pearls" amongst them. Still love "The jasmine flower" and "Storm" so much.

From all the new songs I've already heard, I unfortunately like "The wounds we bled" least and after hearing it in the full band version for a few times now, I don't like it better than before. I find the melody somehow boring, to be honest. She has even had so much better b-sides, imho. I'd rather have "Just kids" as single and "Rose gold" on the album. But well, that's the way it is. The video is quite nice, though the blinding lights a bit too much.

So if you put a song on, for example, youtube, then Heather could legally cover it? Or what does "released in one way or another" mean, only somehow "professionally" released?
Anyway, disregarding the price, I hope for you, that you get the chance to get one of your songs covered by Heather some day soon, Estelle!

Yes, Christmas has become a bit chubby - cute.

It was a really interesting broadcast about Bermuda. So glad, i saw it in the tv paper, where they had a short article about it with a pic of the "Spirit of Bermuda". I guess otherwise, i would have failed to notice it.

I have just watched ĄDie Inseln der Queen Ė BermudaĒ on ARTE. Only seen it yesterday in the tv paper and of course had to watch it because of this beautiful island. But never thought it would include Heather and Joy T. Barnum! So I checked and you can fortunately watch the broadcast online as well! Here is the link: https://www.arte.tv/de/videos/080495-005-A/die-inseln-der-queen/ (Heather's "appearance" is from minute 25:00 and lasts approximately 5 minutes.) Enjoy!

A pity, there werenít more covers (like e.g. by Joan Baez, as mentioned in the announcement above), but fantastic, that she chose those wonderful songs by Tracy Chapman, Kate Bush, Joni Mitchell and Carol King.

Thank you, Mark!!

Oh, Fast car Ė one of my favourites by Tracy.
I remember, Heather said in an interview once that that song was very important for her back 30 years ago, when she was heading for London.

And funnily, the first time I heard The circle game was not the original, but a cover by Tori Amos.

Clouseau, I didnít judge people for how they spend their money. If you felt personally attacked by my posting, that wasnít my intention, sorry. I just told my opinion and I want it to be respected, as I respect your approach.
When you say "It simply comes down to priorities", I totally agree with you! If collecting artistís items and autographs gives you joy and makes you happy, then certainly follow it. Iím honestly glad for you, that Heather gives you the opportunity to purchase meaningful things to you.
Well, I have other priorities in life (and that has nothing to do with fancy cars, iPhones Ė I have neither - or other expendable material stuff) and thatís how it is. At the moment my priority is surviving somehow, thatís all I want to say. Nothing further.
And I truly wish you delight with your purchased items!

I agree with Estelle.
Music business has changed through the last decade and independent artists need to find new ways to make their living, thatís totally understandable. But the prices are off the charts this time, imho.

Canít say anything about the clothes and jewellery; Iím sure, they were expensive.
But the price for drawings/paintings was Euro 250 last year (if I remember correctly), then in autumn it increased to Euro 300 and now itís Euro 500. So it doubled within a few months.
And 75 Euro for a press photo or 200 Euro for used guitar strings?! WowÖ..
Plus, Iím absolutely not willing to pay someone for a "thank you" in any way (credits in the booklet) or pay 20 Euro extra (more than the price of the cd itself) for a "To ÖÖ love, Heather Nova".
I really respect Heather and her work and thus, of course, Iíve always paid for it (like for other artistís work) and wish her good luck with her campaign, but as Estelle already said, I guess she would get more support, if the items werenít that expensive.
Heather canít assume to have only rich and privileged fans, although I really hope for her, that she has a lot of them, who are willing and able to pay such prices without flinching. Well, I am definitely not amongst them. And I am definitely not the sort of fan, who accepts each and everything an artist does uncritically. Because not agreeing with someoneís opinion or approach, doesnít mean, that I donít give respect to them or their work.

Estelleís suggestion of a cd with rarities or songs, which didnít make it on the albums (at a reasonable price) is great, btw. That would have been a good idea and, Iím sure, interesting for a lot of fans.

Just my two cents. Disagree if you want, thatís absolutely alright with me.

No idea. I only had a look at that page once two months ago to see the prices were so off the charts for me (at a time where I didn't know from what to live on from next month on), I haven't cared about that stuff further since.

Even if I hadn't been emotionally and physically prostrated lately, I doubt that I'd try to find out the correct lyrics of the other three songs in the near future, as Ė unlike "After all this time" Ė I'm not too fond of them. (Perhaps I'll like them better in full arrangement.) So it's quite a lack of energy and ambition. It's not the case that I've already done them and don't want to share it, just to let you know.
