Oh yeah!

In fact, I've widened the taste buds a little... I buy Equal Exchange from Planet Organic, and also Illy from the local supermarket...

The coffee maker that my sister and her partner bought for me over 10 years ago, is getting hammered somewhat. She said, it's old, throw it away, so I've said, if they buy me a newer model, I'll retire the current one

Nat King Cole sang "Unforgettable", so it would be quite interesting to hear Heather's take on it.

King Crimson's Larks' Tongues in Aspic 15CD box set
Heather Nova's last one (can't remember the title for the life of me...)
Cassiber The Way It Was
Jon Rose 60th Anniversary box set thingy
Some John Cage CDs...

Bryan Ferry has an incredible voice... if you ever get the chance, try and listen to "As The World Turns" which also features one of my favourite guitar players, Robert Fripp... Ferry's voice on this is delicately controlled... stunning stuff, and it was recorded back in 1977...

Not while people like Putin are in power...

For years, playing rock'n'roll in Eastern Europe was virtually illegal.... The Plastic People of the Universe, Mikolas Chadima and all his projects to name two, who had to essentially go "underground" to have their voices and creative potential nurtured.

What a weird world we inhabit, when a significant number of people can't go about their lives in the way they wish to, by expressing themselves creatively...

The music industry, like any other large organization, wants control of what it's interested in, and if it can't have it, its reasoning is, why should anyone else have it...

Hello Cassander (dragging up an old thread...)... well, I passed 47 years last month... a little greyer, perhaps a little wiser, certainly a little fatter around the waist line than I was in earlier years... but I'm still breathing

Hi... I'm not sure now if you opened up a new thread to say hello, or just replied to the main one (I have been out of the loop with these things for a long time! ), so...

I was one of the original Novaforums characters, before Tim went and transferred ownership to Gerd... and it seems we've all gone through some transforming times and experiences since then...

My first post here in a long time

I think I would be more disappointed by lousy acoustics in a venue that detracted from her performance, than the idea of meeting her either before or after a show...

Back in 2003, on the SOUTH tour, a few of us followed a few of her concerts around in Britina (London, Brighton, Birmingham) and Europe, and we met briefly with her after one show...

I found THAT experience a bit strange... in a parking lot, close to what I assumed was the tour bus, with some of her entourage... I reckon after performing night after night, that sometimes an artist/musician can be a bit jaded and not want to "meet and greet" her fans constantly...

Plus, on the SOUTH tour, she was still pregnant with Sebastian, and now she's a Mom, so maybe some things have changed for her, since the early days...

The dilemma of what to do with "my time"

Alongside Facebook and MySpace, there's eBay and the eBay community, EIL and its community, dimeadozen and its community, dare I say it, The Heather Nova Network... all require login membership of some description and some form of activity to make it work...

I would suggest that these cyber places are predominantly inhabited by single people looking to connect, as generally married people have their married lives, jobs, and alternative social networks to keep them busy... there are exceptions of course...

Communication tools such as Yahoo and MSN messenger and Skypecan be more private.

You pay your money and take your choice.

We've had a couple of days of snow:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7866294.stm

Sunday was my last night shift... the snow around Copley, Halifax where I primary data center is situation was threatening some chaos, so a few of us who live closer to our secondary data center, in Pudsey nr. Leeds, elected to drive over in the early hours, and continue/finish working from there...

Monday's snow was heavier, and the roads were pretty bad... there's forecast of more to come as well...

Barack H. Obama's main obstacle if anything will be the actual weight of expectation on his (and his administration's) shoulders that he's able to turn a corner, unravel some of the mess passed onto him by one of the Bush-men...

I think he's represents such a change in American politics...

An interesting thread, Bernd... but how about artists/musicians/groups who disbanded before you got around to getting to see them?

I saw Genesis, King Crimson and Jethro Tull in the 1990s, but obviously not in their more classic forms... I would have liked to have seen Pink Floyd also but with Rick Wright's demise, that'll never happen now... same with Frank Zappa...

Of three other bands who I love, Thinking Plague play so infrequently (financial issues) that it's unlikely I'll see them live; Monsoon Bassoon, a quirky jazz rock band originating from London, England, broke up years before I got into them... and Electrelane, a female quartet who I love, are in permanent holiday, as of a year or so ago...

Others I'd like to see someday are Fred Frith, John Zorn, and any formation they put together given their prolific composing/musicianship; Lili Haydn in solo mode; Catherine Anne Davies, a relative newcomer who performs in London a lot...

Not enough time or money to see 'em all...

Let us know what it was like... I've only seen her live once, back in the 1990's, when she came to my home town in West Yorkshire, England, and that was a good concert.

String instruments, such as violin, cello and double bass are often used as "background" music in movies, because of their emotive impact on the audience...

Your transport systems are obviously efficient...

There was (is...) snow in England today, but the amount of muppets on the road, attempting to drive their cars wasn't as bad as what I thought it would be.

All of PJ Harvey's and Morrissey's work has been released on vinyl, so there's no real reason why the "powers-that-be" can't release a few sweeteners to the vinyl loving Heather Nova fraternity...
