Thank you guys!

Gerd, I love all those artists too (maybe Doors not quite as much, substitute them with King Crimson :)

Anyway, knowing that the biggest HN fan in the world actually is into prog too makes me feel much less weird about myself :D

So I've just finished this new 13-minute prog epic. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but I think at least the first part may appeal to HN fans:

Yeah, I became a real fan when Version 2.0 came out and that was over 2 decades ago!

Anyway, here's our version of SLEEPING DOGS from the show:

https://youtu.be/sQd4Mu2e_Lk

I really like Joanna's voice on it and I think I came up with some pretty good changes in the chordal structure of the chorus (even if say so myslef).

Also, here's a playlist with 10 tracks from the show (some with another singer, some with myself of lead vox):

Check out this cover of Only Happy When It Rains by Garbage performed last Tuesday!

https://youtu.be/QHZL5YjgaHc

We only had audio from the cams this time but I managed to set a pretty good sound out of them anyway.

Just finished a new solo piece. This one's more of a groove-based thing.

Thanks Gerd! I think the emphasis on harmonies sets our versions apart from Heather's, it's certainly a way of putting our own stamp on the material.

Yeah, we have somewhat similar timbres but I also always make an effort to really blend in with her when harmonising.

We were recently commissioned to play 3 songs of Heather's at a brithday party. The performance actually took place in a castle! Here's the video for the first song, London Rain:

The other two will follow soon, watch this space!

Just finished a new solo piece:

https://soundcloud.com/wp-music-1/how-long-part-ii

This is a demo recorded for Strange Moments. The vocal is by and large just a guide and as it's written for a female voice, I'm basically singing on the verge of or above my natural range. Also, the lyrics are by no means intended as the final version.

Despite all that I still think it's just about good enough to publish :)

Yes, Estelle and Verena would definitely fit, I'm not sure about myself, I seem to function in a totally different musical realm. To me it was enough when Heather praised Oysters & Sirens and told me she thought it must have been very difficult to write. One of my fav songwriters talking to me about one of my songs, what more can you ask for? :D

I only play electric & acoustic guitars and keyboards. I play the drum and bass parts on the keys and I'm actually not very good at it but there's a lot you can fix with midi :)

I make my recordings with very little equipment: the guitars, a 4-octave midi keyboard, a small mixer, a dynamic mic and rather shitty speakers (I should really invest in some better monitors). The rest is software.

I have been looking into mixing techniques a little bit recently and I think it significantly improved the quality of my recordings (especially the last two songs). I do have a tendency to make complex arrangements, which is always difficult to mix.

But yeah, all the songs on my solo profile are 100% solo (except Stay Under Cover, where a great Australian musician friend of mine played the solo and my Strange Moments partner sings harmonies on another song, but that's that).

This particular song came about very quickly, I knew exactly what I wanted, and I had less work this week than usual so the recording didn't take much time :)

That's a great complement, thanks! I wasn't really thinking of him, I just tried singing some phrases with this "priest singing" voice that I can do and it seemed to fit. But yeah, it's definitely a bit Morrissey-ish :D

Here's my newest creation. This one is quite proggy and complex. I wasn't initially sure where I was going with it but I'm very happy with the results.

Thank you! I made this song mostly just to get something finished, chose an arbitrary deadline and really pushed myslef to complete the song. Only goes to show that sometimes you can push yourself to be creative and something good can come out of it.

It's been a while since I published anything new, so here's a new solo tune:

It turned out better than I expected so I decided to put it out while the band is undergoing some serious changes.

Very sad and totally unexpected.

I had a thing for this very simple song called Shattered, I'd sometimes play it with my singer in rehearsals (and she's more of a fun than me).

Here's a cover of Porucpine Tree's Buying New Soul, featuring my old bandmate on additional backing vocals. I honestly think we did a very good job on the 3-part harmony, if I say so myself. Do check it out, Heather's fans should enjoy this one.

Nice enough and sweet to get it as a freebie but a bit too obvious musically for my liking. Not quite on par with most of the material on The Way It Feels IMO.

There are now three tracks from the electric set available:

Thirteen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocmmBLKYy14

What You Wish For: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhPsq7nCRpo
(this one's probably the most HN-fan-friendly of the three)

Two more will be released in this week.

About 40-70 people. Friends and family, really. Hopefully it will change, though. We're going to record the album professionally. The top session drummer from my city (and one of the best ones in the country) will start recording the drums soon (and he'll also do a video clinic based on one of the songs due to its rhythmic complxity). Anyway, we hope to have a 4-track EP finished by October and that'll hopefully open doors to some festivals and at least local radio and maybe we'll get some more exposure that way.

Here's another vid you might enjoy even more:

It's a cover of Doubled Up paired up in a medley with Pink Floyd's Brain Damage. We often do those as the final encore.

Yes, it's done by the same people who did the David Bowie exhibition. As a lifelong PF fan (well, at least 25 years and I'm 34) I'm very excited about it but can't afford going to see it.

No need to apologise! It's just that I kind of grew up with PF, been familiar with Dark Side Of The Moon ever since I was 5 or 6 (so over a quarter of a century now) so I can't help but find your comment a little amusing

Well, there are only some rough-sounding rehearsal recordings. I put one here, where we play it segued with Pink Floyd's Brain Damage, which we usually do:

Thanks! I actually wrote the song section (just for piano and voice) some years ago but didn't know how to develop it. I stumbled upon the original rough demo recently and then I suddenly got this idea.

As for Island, yeah, Joanna does a great job with it. We also so Doubled Up from time to time, it's not that much of a showcase for her but I've added a lot of harmonies to it so it sounds even more like a campfire song :D
