Does anyone can confirm the title "Face to face"? In the song I heard something like "face to face with the lion(s)", but sorry my oral understanding of english is a little rusty (so is my memory)...

Oh! I forgot! Mishka also sang "Above the bones" (must be between "Face to face" and "Love and devotion". That's all I can remember for now...

Hello everyone,

It's been a long time I haven't come here!

To answer Bernd's comment about "The sun will always rise". Heather said that it was a request of a certain "Marc".

About Mishka's songs, ah! Usually I always take notes... This time, I thought "Someone of Heathernova.net will certainly do it"! My fault!

All I can remember about Mishka's song is:
- Never give up on you (not sure it was the first song)
- Face to face (I think at 97,86% ( ) it was the second song he sung)
- Lonely
- Love and devotion (last one, I'm sure)

There must be one or two other songs (sung between "Face to face" and "Love and devotion"). Sorry I can't be more precise. May be other people will have a better memory than me (or may be they have taken some notes).

By the way, for me, the support act by Mishka was one the best of Heather's gigs I have attended.
Voil!

Oh, it's been a long time I haven't come on the forum! And a long time there haven't been new quotes here. Darren once posted this quote:

"There is no remedy for love but to love more."
~ Henry David Thoreau

So it makes me think of one of my favorite from Jean Rostand (sorry if my translation is erroneous):
"Only one remedy, if we can use some; to love stronger than we suffer."

("Un seul remde, si l'on peut en user; aimer plus fort qu'on ne souffre." in "Penses d'un biologiste")

In 2008, I bought:
Viva la vida- Coldplay
Smilers- Aimee Mann
The jasmine flower- Heather
3 albums I like and 3 gigs with -> it was sooo great!

I also bought Jewel's album "Perfectly clear", I find it less disappointing than the last two ones but really not as good as her 3 first albums...

I've read a book about The Simpson and Science written by Marco Malaspina (he apparently works on an italian scientific radio program). Not particularly brillant but not bad anyway (if you're a fan of the Simpson).
I'm currently reading "The selfish gene" of Richard Dawkins and a little book on the biology of the fig tree.

PS: now that you make the notice, it's true that the title of "full house" literaly translated in German would have sounded horrible!

Salut Bene!

Oh yes, "Full house", the one that denounces the idea of progress in Life's evolution. It's quite short (and so, quite quick to read! ).
And the metaphor of the drunken man and the closed door of the bar is easy to catch (a comparison to the "left wall of minimal complexity" and the randomness of evolution).
This book is the continuation of "Wonderful life" (my favorite one). That one is as pleasant as the Frank Capra's movie "It's a wonderful life" to which the book's title refers to. By the way, if you haven't seen that movie, I advice it to you for Christmas time.

Bonne lecture mon ami!

Thanks for the picks Gerd, you're a professionnal!
Concerning Larkspur falls, I'm happy Johandeman finally appreciated it! I've heard you (Johan), before the gig, saying (to a couple of people) something like: "Oh! Vous aller voir, c'est horrible!". The tone of your comment wasn't really cynical, more comical (to me anyway ). Very good French accent, by the way!
Personnally, I find Larkspur falls quite good (certainly the best support act I've heard of Heather's concerts in Paris).
And we don't really see on the photograph but on her tee-shirt, I liked what was writen in French: "Je ne regrette rien" (allusion to Edith Piaf's song I supposed...).

Oh, nice picture! Was it before or after the concert? I'm asking it because during the show her dress was white with colored volutes.
By the way, have someone noticed (among those who did the complete tour) how many different dresses have she worn during the tour?

I'm just getting back home from the concert.
It was the first time I saw her so relaxed from the beginning to the end of a gig (but I've only seen her the 3 lasts time she came in France). The last times, she always seemed concentrated at the begenning and little by little, more released. But tonight, I was so happy to feel her totally at ease, smiley and as happy as us to be here! It must be partly because it was the last date of the tour, but may be (certainly? ) also because of the "junkie tour" band: Guys, you're great! Thank you! I'm sure Heather has appreciated such support (with french wine?).
Heather's band was really great, Berit still amazingly rocks!
I felt like it sounds more rock than last tour, doesn't it?
Anyway, another magnificent evening.
THANKS SO MUCH HEATHER! We adore you!

Ho, and I saw you guys, waiting at the end of the gig for Heather. Hope you'll tell us!

Oh! The book has been translated in French (it is entitled "Les secrets du cerveau fminin") but is only available in a big size for the moment if I well remember. I haven't taken a deep look at it yet. May be it's because I like books when they are pocket-sized (more ecologically correct... and fit more to my pocket-sized room! ) or because I've already got a book on the subject that I still haven't read!

Now it's been a few months, actually. I read "Race et histoire" of Claude Levy-Strauss.

A quite interesting text! Notably because of its historical context, after the World War II, at the begining of Unesco, in response to some famous biologists like Julian Huxley (1srt president of Unesco) and Theodosius Dobzhansky who gave some credits to the notion of "race".
Levi-Strauss discussed the idea of progress in cultures (some of his ideas even closely echoes with some of my favorite author, S.J. Gould, about progress in evolution!), denounced the "ethnocentrism" and dealt with the concept of cultural relativity (what we now call, at least in France, the "levi-straussian relativism" like we talk in physics -concerning mouvements- about the galilean relativity).

Well, quite an intellectual reading (but short )... but I really liked it!
