Bene, that's the Peter Hoeg who wrote "Smilla's sense of snow" right ? that's one of my all time favorite book. He's a brilliant writer. it seems it's the only one who got translated here though. is there one of him that exists in english and which you would especially recommand ?

last week read :

Georges Orwell's "Farm of animals", classic don't hurt :D
a japanese book called "The traveler's tree" about a man searching for his brother through Tokyo
and i started Hubert Selby Jr's "Last Exit To Brooklyn", trashy but good.

i know i'm a good audience but still that extract is hilarious, poor R kelly !

there's this episode of south park that is all about scientology, it was heavily criticized but it doesn't change the fact that it was accurate and quite fun actually.

oh sorry , i'm still hanging on the nadia lanman acoustic style.

still "what a feeling" with violin must sound terribly good.

too bad for BB, yet it has gained lots of success, i read the director didn't expect that much attention for it at first.

Crash is really good, i saw it by accident and i was relaly surprised, some actors are playing on a range they're not used to : Sandra Bullock as a paranoid prejudiced bourgeoise, Matt Dillon as a racist cop, and Ryan Philippe as a loser. Easy on some points but good film nevertheless.

just out of curiosity , did somebody record it ?

i'd love to hear "this body" and "these walls " live !

was "what a feeling" played with the cello or the keybords ?

"houellebecq" ?? considering him a good writer is highly disputable for me... when the style is good it's cheaply provocative and when the story's interesting the writing's bad. i still cannot believe he wrote a biography of Lovecraft !

Beigbeder is good though and fun. he was the host of a litterature show for moe time on the cable and one time, he made a specail "nudist" episode where all the writers had to come naked to talk about their books, it was quite funny , how some were embarassed and couldn't concentrate while some others were focusing on what was important to them...

lol yes she does sing in french. but on a french forum it's said she sang the english version at a concert,so maybe it'll be a "gloomy sunday " when she's in Paris...

i'm thinking of going both days so this way i'll tell you. ;)

i bought that artist's latest cd "boucle " (yes, she's french ) and i realized that one of the song amongst the many gooooood songs of the album was a cover (in french ) of "gloomy sunday", which is quite different of Heather's.

here's a page with samples
http://www.naive.fr/artiste_naive.php?id=317

she's really gifted , live and in studio (mixing a Lied by Schubert with a cover of Rage Against The Machine ), i'll be going at her concert (both of them is possible ) in Paris.

here's an upload of the cover : "Sombre Dimanche"

http://s33.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1Z4QYDG6MR6QN0P90RFVJDRTIO

and another song of the album "Princesse Arabe" :

I'm assuming you think differently? I've never heard of a non rightwinger like her, so I'm curious. Never read anything of hers myself.

well i haven't read her philosophical books yet, but according to her novels, i'm pretty sure she was definitely against communism or any kind of collectivism, so indeed it's unlikely she ever was leftwinger communist or (maybe) a socialist. she seems to have been a lot against exploitation or dictatorships according to her philosophy which she's based on logics.

her novels are cleverly written though and though a bit too long at some parts, they're really interersting whether one agrees with her or not. "the fountainhead" i still prefer more than "atlas shrugged" though.

finished Stephen King's "It" which i hadn't read for veeeeeery long , it really reminded me why i love this writer, the story is never really great but he has a way of writing about the relationship between the characters that's so perceptive, you immediatly get his view on them.

i'm a hundred pages away from Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged", it's a life changing book but really out of 1170 pages, 70 pages of a speech was wayyyy to long. soon the end . more ayn rand books to buy :)

oh Yes ! i missed " i love huckabees" when it was out on the screens, i have to plunge into the dvd, there's Naomi in it...

saw Mysterious Skin two days ago, it was good, well directed and played but really the story is far too gloomy and ugly for my taste...
