Will Golden Ghosts be on BandCamp today as well? There's a special event today where Bandcamp's proceeds are being donated to charity today (Friday) and I was going to link people to your Golden Ghosts EP there!

Hope more recordings follow!

It's so wonderful to see these out in the world, though, after all these years! So proud of these songs and I can finally link people to What If The Fog all the times I mention it! (I think of it always when it's foggy.)

Why are you disappointed? Is there something wrong with the Nuremburg version of See Yourself?

Whatever happened to The Band? Where are the CDs, Youtube videos, vinyls, ticket stubs?

What was our breakup story? Sex? Drugs? Rock n Roll? Did we skyrocket to heights and then crash down?

I need to know the salacious story and who was at fault. Sounds like a management problem to me!

And I need our old songs to reminisce over. Will we have a streaming documentary about our storied music career, rise, and fall?

I remember you once asked me about the difference between "to" and "for" in English, but I forget if it was for this song or another one?

I still always think of my high school Latin teacher's cheer:

"To, for, six, eight, who do we appreciate? Dative! Dative!"

(A variant on the English cheer "Two, Four, Six, Eight, who do we appreciate? NAME! NAME!"

Had to see what the final version of the lyrics were so I wrote them up based on the facebook video! It's a warm feeling returning to these words we discussed and worked on so much a couple years ago and finally hearing the melody!

Thought this might help others understand the song as well.

Golden Ghosts
by Estellem

(Verse 1)
Honesty is a dream in which we all wanted to believe,
The lifeblood of the team
No one craves for a lie to tie his soul to another one;
Still, it's all we can find

(Chorus)
And sometimes, I've fallen in love with a man who didn't exist at all,
And I've longed so hard for a spark from a golden ghost
I've fallen in love with a glimpse of what would have suited me,
Then I dug for reality, which saved me

(Verse 2)
We sail somewhere between bright peackock tail and raw shameful self
We don't want to be seen
While we bail out our hearts, scrubbing away the mud and the grime,
Keeping the glowing parts

(Chorus)

(Bridge 1)
When the blue turns to black,
And the king to the jack,
When the wine is water,
We run from the fire

(Verse 3)
Genuine truth is a tale on which we all wanted to rely
Who are you? What am I?

(Chorus)

(Bridge 2/Outro)
When the cock is crowing,
When the moon is fading,
When the toad is croaking,
Then we drop the pumpkin,
Drop the pumpkin,
Drop the pumpkin

Well, I tried it so I'll see what happens!

New album, Grief Creature, comes out November 15. http://marylambertsings.com/

Mary went independent and made the music herself with the help of kickstarter - she also did all or most of the production and mixing and such. She had been frustrated by record labels not letting her control her own music and pushing her to make music she didn't want to make - sound familiar?

I've heard it early due to being a kickstarter and I can say the first and last several songs are my favorites. It's actually a mixture of poetry and music.

There are some love songs and songs about depression and such on here, but the lyrics and poetry can get extraordinary intense - rape, child abuse, trauma, and the lingering effects of these are all delved into on several songs/poems. Not easy listening but some of the bravest and most painful music I've ever listened to.

Most intense tracks are Shame, Me Museum, Sister, Knife, Trauma is a Stalker, If You Ever Leave Somebody, Another Rape Poem.

Born Sad is a really fun song about depression (really!) that she's played live at shows for years now. It's the first single!

Thanks for all the info and the recording! Very nice!

Songs from Oyster, Siren, South, 300 Days, TWIF, and, of course, Pearl.

Nothing from Glow Stars, Redbird, or TJF. Hmm.

It's been a month now (June 25) since I got a shipping notice for my order but neither DHL nor USPS show any status at all for my order tracking.

I have heard from other U.S. fans who haven't gotten theirs yet but wondering how widespread it is? Has anyone outside the U.S. not gotten theirs yet either?

I was willing to be patient but this is getting to be a long time and I'm worried something is wrong. I just emailed Merchcowboy to ask and will update if I hear back.

The Storm tour! I remember that recording. So good.

My favorite version of Aquamarine is from those early live shows touring on Storm before she started doing the Chris Coco version.

I saw the total solar eclipse in 2017. My Dad lived in the path of totality and I went down to visit him and we drove to the middle of the path and saw totality for two and a half minutes or so. Was really cool. It was both of our first total solar eclipses.

Finally listening to the demos straight through now that I know the album better. Most of them make me really appreciate how well the album was produced, but See Yourself works really well as a demo. Probably would be quite good acoustic.

I think After All This Time works well acoustically as well.

Okay, that makes so much more sense, Estelle!

I'd like to hear Berit's take on Pearl. Part of me wants to travel to Europe again just to hear Berit again since she's not ever going to be on an American tour. Arnulf is amazing too but he does come here.
There's nothing like Berit shredding a good guitar solo on a Heather song and now we have a new song with a long solo! Vincent is really good but I still want to hear Berit's take. I feel she could have a lot of fun with Rewild Me.

I feel like the rise of vinyl is making albums shorter again so they fit in one record. I would guess Rose Gold didn't get included because that would get one song over a single vinyl which would be inefficient. I don't know that for a fact but it's got to be a consideration.

Oh, good catch. I meant to put that in Songs About Other People but forgot.

I have a personal theory that the song is far more autobiographical than it it appears, though.

Nope. I'm in the same boat. Still hasn't even gotten to the U.S. yet.

Thankfully I have friends who help me out with stuff like the lyrics booklet.

Rewild me is about herself. Getting back to nature. Also recovering from the divorce. She talks about reading about the rewilding movement of getting back to nature to heal and how that seems so obvious to her.

Over The Fields is about the guy Island is about. She heard he was dying and wrote him a letter to forgive him. Then he wrote back apologizing for everything he had done to her. Scroll up for more details and to read it in her own words.

Just in case there was a language barrier issue, I meant haunting in a good way. A very good way. The last verse of Everytime is amazing. I remember doing research on sea grass and where it grows when the album came out. That would be one of the things I'd want to note if I ever went to Bermuda.

Storm is funny. I expected to put Everytime ahead by just a little and for both to be four and a half like Out In New Mexico.

But I can't find anything wrong with Storm. It's an extremely tight, vivid extended metaphor with perfect singing and guitar. Beautiful folk or folk/rock song. You could say, I guess, the metaphor isn't original enough but the preparation for the tropical storm (I assume) is just so vivid and real. I guess you could say maybe she hits the metaphor over the head too much but the point of the song is how you're living through something that feels like a metaphor and you think about it and feel it - how she thinks about "things that got lost" when making her storm preparations with the shutters and the anchors.

I don't know that it doesn't get a little tired with repetition the way Island and Sugar never do. But I can't really separate it from them either.

It also is the one and only second encore I've ever gotten at a show - in Portland after the first encore, Heather came back to play one final song without Arnulf this time and it was Storm. Portland was her favorite city of the tour and it was a beautiful theater and the crowd was good and it was just magical. Only time she played Storm on the entire tour.

Everytime is a little more interesting musically with that guitar and maybe her singing though I find her singing amazing on both. It's very short and simple. Maybe I could say "yours the thorny crown" doesn't fit in with the rest of it or do a whole lot as a Jesus reference but, eh, the song is still perfect for me.

Also the whistling. That beautiful melody which so perfectly fits the song. The way she captures these vivid images - riding in a car at night has never been done better? I don't quite know what haunts me about the last verse but it just sticks with me. "Where the sea grass grows dark among the stones, you have thrown the line, saved me everytime." Gorgeous.

I cannot find anything not to like about Drink It In either. Maybe a touch less vivid but really, really moving and so quiet and contemplative which fits it perfectly. Love the way it builds. Oddly reminds me a whole lot of Everything Changes.
