Did the journalists choose the two singles, or did they make more personal choices ?

The waves come crashing
In my veins and I get drunk
Vincent, I want
Only to be with you

Yes, it is pronounced different : "in" is "ɛ̃ " (the wave is supposed to be above the letter), and "en" is "ɑ̃ " (same).

And you don't pronounce the final "t".

There is pain, but each time there's pain, it doesn't really matter because every pain has its purpose and brings her to be over-happy with Vincent. So, even pain becomes something positive.

That was my opinion.

I think you are right concerning the lyrics. The music is a bit like Oyster, but the lyrics don't have its rawness.

I definitely like Your Words a lot.

And, oh, I do have a reproach to do to Pearl : Heather didn't put Rose Gold on it.

I'm listening to the album for the first time. Consider this post as a lno, long, livetweet, but on a forum.

Careful, there may be some spoilers !

The Wounds We Bled : as I said earlier, I not really dislike it, for the arrangements are well done, but the melody is not my cup of tea, nor is the "mainstream pop side".
Still the electric guitar is fine, and makes the song more interesting than it could have been.
I think the song should not open the album ; it's not a matter of quality (tastes...), but its start is more made to follow a song than to open the album. I think the song would be more at its advantage (and at its "place", considering the "story" told by the album) near the end.

All the Rivers : Heather promised a rock album, and this is a rock song. Deal respected (I'm relieved). I can't tell or the lyrics yet, but the music, melody, arrangements are absolutely ok to me.

Rewild Me : a sweet and melancholic song. Oh, wait. Not. The heavy guitars are arriving, with all the rocky stuff. Well, in the end, nice mood, arrangements nicely done, and I have not studied the lyrics a lot yet, but they seem to fit. And, once again, it rocks (though you wound never guess when you hear the beginning of the song). Powerful music, the lead guitar (the electric one) is perfect.

Some Things Just Come Undone :
I heard the beginning, and said to myself : "hmmm, I won't like this one". But in the end, yes. Well, I'm not a deep fan of the end (for it looks like the beginning ), and some parts the bridge lyrics are far from Heather's best lines, but in between, I have nothing to complain about. Well done, once again.

After All This Time : much powerful than the acoustic version. Like Rewild Me (less haunting, it still has a piece of sweetness), but I really like it, and find it's a really good tune. Funnily, it has its quite vintage moments, which turns to be quite cute. The chords seem a bit enhanced compared to the acoustic version we knew (i didn't have a closer look yet), which is fine. The cello part is fine, the guitar part is fine, well, it's fine.

Over the fields : I like the lyrics, but I'm not that fond of the melodies. The instruments arrangements are pretty, but they don't work on me (except on the bridge, but I'm not fond of what Heather songs at things moment). The voice arrangements see quite weird (to me).

Just Kids : I still find some reservations about the song by itself (common chords, melody and rhythm too close to The Wounds We Bled), but I have to admit that, at the moment of the album, it finds its place, so I stop complaining. (except for the tab... )

Don't Worry What The Experts Say : THE song I don't like on the album. , mainly because I find it too plain, mostly musically, but I'm not really admiring the lyrics either.

See Yourself : a rock song, quite tense, it's ok. It has a kind of hardness (harshness ?), which hadn't been Heather's specialism for long, so I'm happy this side of her music is back. The lyrics on the chorus are a bit cheesy, I have to say, but it's easily easily (I put the word twice in purpose) forgiven.

If the game is about comparing Oyster and Pearl, this is Pearl's Throwing Fire At The Sun.

Vincent : cute song. Actually, the first song on the album that begins cute and stays cute. Which is not a compliment, nor a reproach, just a fact. I have no opinion about a song having to stay cute or note. The song is not my favourite on the album, but I like it.
I hope you'll like it, because I'm under the impression that Heather will sing the song at every show of the forthcoming tour.

Your Words : nice, begins sweet and cute, ends powerful.
Maybe it's only default is that it's the last song on the album, which brings it to be listened after several songs that follow more or less the same formulas, the same codes, the same tricks. Had it be track number 4 or 5, I would be very enthusiastic, I guess.
But well, it's fine.

To my mind, the only real reproach I have to do about Pearl is not connected to the album by itself, but I think the singe were badly chosen. As you'll probably have read on this very topic, after hearing them, I was not really particularly waiting and eager for the album to come out. Had I heard Rewild Me instead of The Wounds We Bled, I'd have been looking very forward (I don't know if this is correct in English) to the album being out (and the blue cover with the background resembling to Amazon music's one, didn't made my appetite grow either). And the merchwcowboy thing with higher prices than usual, and so few 'thank you" stuff. I have to say, between Pearl and me, things hadn't started well.

But in the end, it is out, and it is good. I have to re-listen, of course, but if I have to compare with the last time we were supposed to be a rock powerful album, I spoil you all at once : Pearl is better, by far, to 300 Days. It is not, either "even better than Oyster" as Heather pretends, for Oyster has rawer music and stronger lyrics, but it's a nice work, and, for once, the rock album is a rock album . Let's enjoy it.

Oh, I made a lapsus.
I meant "I like Sebastian songs on TWIF".

TWIF is in my personal top3 album, with Glow Stars and Oyster.

300 days, South and Redbird are the three I like least, though every album fortunately has its gems.

Siren, Storm and TJF are three albums I like a lot, but not my favourites ones.

Well, let's listen to Bernd and wait until we have the whole album to listen to entirely if we want to be able to judge its quality properly.

I don't think it's connected.

The songs I love or I dislike in Heather's discography have been the same for more than 15 years ; and during this 15 years, Ive been desperately alone, I've been deeply happy and in love, I have been in couple but with some difficulties in the couple, I've been, well, everything, like we almost all do sometimes in our lives.

I didn't like Motherland nor Mesmerized nor The Sun Will Always Rise (but loved Mothertongue) before being a mother, and nothing has changed. I like the songs about Sebastian on 300 Days at Sea, but not because they are bout something I can relate ; just because I find the music and the arrangements good.
The only exception could be Moon River Days, maybe. I love this song. There is indeed a mellowing stuff that I'm not fond of, but above t, and above the rest, I find the melody line (and the chords) too mainstream, and not very original ; fwiw, sometimes, I mix in my head the verses of one with the chorus of another, not on purpose, but because both resemble so much.

I like Roses Gold. It's not on the album, unfortunately, but maybe Heather will play it again live.

I had absolutely nothing against Your Words and After All This Time with stripped-down live version, and I hope it will be the same for the album version.

My biggest disappointment so far is Don't Worry What The Experts Say. It lacks originality, a lot.

But oh well. I've been loving one Heather Nova album out of two for years. Storm OK, Redbird not fond, Jasmine OK, 300 Days not fond of, The Way it Feels, awesome (imo).

It doesn't depend on my own mood. It does depend on the melody lines (Twif songs tabs are quite different from one to another, and HN favourite patterns are less used that usually).
Maybe Heather is better at expressing sad feelings that good, I don't know. Maybe not, because she has wrote some wonderful positive songs as well.

Well, there are still a bunch of Pearl songs we haven't heard yet. Maybe we'll have good surprises.
I have nothing against just Kids not Wounds, but

These are the same chords throughout the songs, which doesn't mind, in my opinion, for they are quite different from the other new songs, which is a good thing.

I like the song.

Heather Nova
ROSE GOLD

E Am D E Am D

E Am D
And the path was unfolding in the charm of my heart that I didn't know,
E Am D
And the boy was out walking on the street in the falling snow
E Am D
With a Walkman in his cold hands and the music speaking straight to his soul
E Am D
In the moment that I felt it, in the shadow of doubt that I let it go.

E Am D
What happens when you feel it but you let it go ?
E Am D
Those roses planted still are gonna grow.
E Am D
We made choices but how do we ever know
E Am D
Which rose is gonna turn out to be rose gold ?

E Am D

White blanket of nothing for miles till Thunder Bay,
In the [???] looking backwards on the highway
That's all we have to go on sometimes,
The years we spend crossing the continents of our lives.

What happens when you feel it but you let it go ?
Those roses planted still are gonna grow.
We made choices but how do we ever know
Which rose is gonna turn out to be rose gold ?

E Am D E Am D
Don't let it, don't let it go,
E Am D
Don't let it get away from you
When you find some thing that's true.

What happens when you feel it but you let it go ?
Those roses planted still are gonna grow.
We made choices but how do we ever know
Which rose is gonna turn out to be rose gold ?

Gonna turn out to be, gonna turn out to be rose gold.
Gonna turn out to be, gonna turn out to be rose gold.

We're human every time

Chorus

There's a road that leads around
The sweetest part of you I've found
And though I know I might be wrong
I thought I heard it in a song sung so many years ago

Cause I want what you want

What everything is all about
So hold me and kiss me
And don't worry what the experts say
I'm gonna love you
If it feels good then it is good
And don't worry what the experts say, we'll blow those theories clean away

C Em Am F

F ~ C

Don't thank me, it was easy. Way too easy indeed. Always the same "good old" patterns. Especially Just Kids and The Wounds We Bled are very similar - I made confusions / mixing in my head, remind me the chorus of one after the verses of the others.
I Like Oysters, Glow Stars and The Way It Feels over 300 Days or these new songs because Heather escapes this kind of patterns more often. The chords were more different from a song to another on those albums.
But whatever. The songs are not bad. But Heather can't say she's having a new rock album or a new ofster as log as she stays in these patterns, much more made for mainstram pop than for rock.

Wound so tightly that they stopped

Got no control but we do
And all the shimmer, let it through
I held it back, somehow I knew

The willow weeps where the seeds are thrown
All the things I wish I'd said
I'm better for the wounds we bled

Did it all for worse or better
Now I got my shit together
Was it worth it, it's whatever
I won’t think about it

All the things I wish I'd said
I'm better for the wounds we bled
I'm better for the wounds we bled

I took the lyrics from Az lyrics. Cass will probably correct me if need be, and we'll soon have the album out, and the lyrics, anyway.

Heather Nova herself talekd about Oyster, when announcing the album.
Bernd just copied the interview.
Plus, there is a connection between the albums covers (fonts, album titles, Heather standing approximately with the same gesture...). Same producer, as well.

Talking about the cover, in spite af all the hints to Oyster, I see a big change of mood : there's something aseptized in that Facebook-blue mood, Heather's leather trousers, the blue marine top... there was something much, much more organic and spiritual in Oyster's cover, more personal. Pearl cover is quite cold, imho. Because of the color. Possbly the choices about the make-up as well, though I'm not an expert at all (I don't know anything about make-up).

Lst album cover had more soul in it. 300 Days cover was ok to me, as well.

Well. The song makes me think bout Sea Glass, one of the songs I like less on The Way It Feels, but I am very fond of The Way it Feels, so if goes the same way this time, it's ok to me.

It's late, I'm not sure if my English was accurate, but you'll understand what I meant anyway.

To my mind, the problem is in trying to rock a song whose melody isn't made for rock.

I appreciated the acoustic live version, the lyrics are ok, and I like some parts pf the cd version (the guitar, for example). The arrangements have something very cristalline, delicate, soft, and full of light, that don"t match a rocking mood. I can't blame anything in the song ; it's just that the melody and the arrangements and the aiming-at-doing-rock stuff just don't fit well together.

It's just like if you served me a delicious beef steak for the dessert, or a wonderful chocolate cake as a min course : it's good stuff, but the way it's used is not accurate.

Well, that was my opinion.

The song definitely reminds me of Sea Glass, which I quite like, but is my least favourite (with Humanness) on the previous album. Too smooth, too many compromises, too many goals n one songs that don't fit together.

It seems that the covers of your choice didn't sell well, this time. I thought she sold more of them during the previous campaign. Too expensive, probably.
Well, I would have buy one if I could have one of my song is covered, but legally, Heather can't until the song is released in one way or another. But having one's own cover is very special, and only something very special can't make me decide to pay 700 euros for it.

The difference between the vinyl price on merchcowboy and Amazon is quite high. Especially if you consider that French people don't pay postage.

It's a constant balance, actually, between priorities and pleasure and bank account.

Heather's first campaign was in 2011. Prices were cheaper, I had no kids, I lived in a medium house, my salary increased a little bit each year, to partly follow the cost of life.

8 years later, some items are much more expensive, I got 3 kids, a bigger house, and my salary has been frozen for years.
Spending about 50 euros (if I remember well) for the fun to received a singed CD with my name in the credit was clearly affordable, and worth it. Now, spending 85 euro for the same item is 1- far more complicated 2- too expensive anyway...

Postcards price was obviously ok : they are sold out.
Clothes and jewelry prices seem ok to me. Not that I can afford it, but the price seems just fair.

This campaign doesn't seem to work as well as the previous ones : Heather had to adjust some prices, upgrade some items, etc. I don't remember something similar last time. For the 300Days campaign, of course, she had finally offer some extra mp3, but if my memory isn't fooling me, it was mainly due to the fake signed CD, when the company who was managing the packages and the posting had screwed up.

I'm of course willing to support Heather. I was ready to pay for the cover of my choice item (which I finally didn't, for for legal reasons, I couldn't get what I want). I hope that next time...).

Still, I find many items so expensive. I don't mind paying, but I want more in return. I am not ready to pay 74 euros for a book just a little bigger than the Oyster one. 15 euros wes perfect, 20 or 25 would be ok, but 74 ?

I can understand, though, that Heather needs money. Well, I'm sure she has many b-sides and stuff that she could sell. A rarities and unrealised CD would be great, and not expensive to create.

Would some items be cheaper, she'll probably sell more of them.

Of course, I wans't speaking about clothes or artwork. This kind of stuff just has to be expensive, they are quiet unique, and the price seems fair to me.

It seems to be more or less the same kind of book than the one we bought about Oyster, for 20 euros, if I remember well.

I tried for Rose Gold, but I couldn't manage it.
Same for the two others, except I also lost what I had... I ca re-try both of them, but I doubt it will be convincing.
